3 Ways to Feel Better About Your Body Now
By Genevieve Cunningham
It's no secret that most people aren't particularly excited about their own bodies. It seems that we all want to lose weight or tone up or slim down. And if you're not in this group, you may actually be in the group that wishes they could gain weight! No matter what we look like, we're very rarely happy about our own appearance. But the harsh truth is that in order to really change the way that we look and feel happy, we need to appreciate our bodies as they are now. We can still work toward change, but that happiness comes from acceptance in ourselves and the ever-changing process. But how do we do that? If you would like to stop the self-hate and love your body as it is, take a look at these tips to help you change your attitude today.
Get Active
It doesn't matter how big or small your body is right now. If you're active, you're going to feel better, plain and simple. Get out and walk. Join a gym. Play games with the kids. Just move your body every day and enjoy the fact that you can move at all. The more you move, the more likely you are to lose weight and gain muscle, which will likely put you closer to your ultimate goal. If you want to feel better about your body and also your life, get active and you'll be well on your way.
Dress for Your Body
It's really important to understand your own body and to dress for the way it's made. If you aren't dressing for your body, you're going to feel awkward and uncomfortable. What does this mean? It means wear clothes that fit. Don't fit into two sizes too small or two sizes too large. It means play to your good assets. Love your hips to waist ratio? Wear clothes that accentuate this area of your body. Love the way your shoulders look? Wear clothes that show the soft curved skin of your shoulders. Wear clothes that make you feel good! Stop caring about fashion forward or staying with the fad. Dress for yourself, and you'll automatically feel better about where your body is now.
Appreciate the Good Parts
Don't forget to appreciate all the good parts of your body. Are you able to move? Appreciate it. Do you have luscious hair? Play it up. You might appreciate your smile, pain-free joints, good general health, or a million other things about your body. Focus on what you do like instead of what you don't, and you may find that loving your body is easier than you thought.
It's OK to want to change your body. It's always good to work toward better health. But it's also OK and even a great idea to appreciate what you have right now! Positivity breeds positivity! Love your body as it is now, and you'll be that much closer to good health and long-term happiness in your life.
