The Workout Motivation You Need

By Brandi Goodman

Working out can seem like -- well -- a lot of work. It can be difficult to exercise when you don't have the motivation to do so. You might know that you need the exercise, but that doesn't help you to actually make it through the strenuous activity you're trying to accomplish. With the right motivation, you can get in a good workout and actually start looking forward to more physical activity in your life.

A Partner

A gym partner can be exactly what you need to get motivated. You'll know you don't have to head to the gym alone and can instead go in with someone by your side. The both of you can work out together and help to keep each other on the right track.

Support

Support from others can be a great motivator. Post progress photos online if you feel comfortable. Join an exercise group on Facebook. Join a fitness class. Having others around while you go through this journey can give you the support you need to continue on.

A New Activity

Sometimes people get burnt out doing the same type of exercises each day. A new activity can bring back some of that motivation you may have once had. You can even opt for a new activity each workout so you always have something different to look forward to. Try a different class. Head to the gym and try a new machine you've never used. Take up water aerobics or join a sport. Look at options such as goat yoga or other unique offerings. You're more likely to enjoy yourself and stay motivated to keep trying more if you're doing things that are new and exciting.

Music

Music may be all the motivation you need. If you typically tend to exercise without music playing, you can find yourself feeling bored quickly. Set an upbeat playlist that will have you feeling inspired and wanting to dance. It will make you more likely to put in all your effort and keep the exercise routine going.

Rewards

A rewards system may be a good way to keep you motivated if you're otherwise struggling. Tell yourself if you manage five days of workouts in a week you'll get to buy a new book or app if you've been wanting. If you manage to maintain a steady schedule of workouts for two weeks straight, pick out a new outfit. Gift yourself a massage after a full month of exercise. Having rewards like these to look forward to can help you stay on track.

Exercise is important to overall health. Find the motivation you need to work out and get your body moving. Just a little push is all you may need to get yourself in the mood to exercise. You might actually find yourself enjoying it.
