Fatigue's Natural Causes and How to Finally Beat It
By Genevieve Cunningham
Fatigue might feel like a normal part of life. As we enter adulthood, feeling exhausted just becomes a part of who we are. But just because it’s incredibly common, it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily normal. Are we supposed to feel so tired all the time? And if not, what can we do about it? Take a look at these common causes of excessive fatigue, followed by some tips for beating it once and for all.
Common Causes of Fatigue
Though there are many different causes of fatigue, some of the most common might include:
-
Kids - Does this even need explanation? Kids are exhausting! And if you have any, you’re probably feeling more than your fair share of exhausted.
-
Work - Work might be necessary, but it’s also exhausting. If you work a full-time job, no matter what it is, chances are good that you feel exhausted at least part of the time.
-
Hormones - When the hormones are imbalanced, it can cause excessive fatigue. And since it doesn’t take much for an imbalance to occur, this is a problem for a great many.
-
Poor sleep habits - If you’re constantly staying up late, it’s possible that your fatigue is simply from bad sleeping habits. Our bodies need routine, and if we don’t give it to them, negative side effects are bound to occur.
Effective Solutions
Just as there are multiple causes, there may be multiple solutions to beating the fatigue. A few possible solutions may include:
-
Cut back on caffeine - Caffeine is a stimulant, which means it’s made to keep us awake. Even if you only consume in the mornings, it might be enough to keep you from getting enough sleep.
-
Get exercise - Exercise not only tires the body, but it also rids it of stress and tension. Through this, sleep often follows closely behind and fatigue becomes a thing of the past.
-
Improve sleeping habits - We set bedtimes for little kids, but as adults, we tend to skip this important step. A consistent bedtime and wake-up time may help your body find a rhythm that leads to better sleep and less fatigue.
Fatigue is a tough part of life. It’s almost unavoidable, and it can seriously get in the way of life. But with some diligence and the use of these tips, you may be able to beat it once and for all. Stay on top of it, be persistent in your approach, and you may be able to finally leave fatigue behind and feel better than ever before.
