Dr. Stan Setzer received his Bachelors in Business from the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2010. He then chose Sherman College to complete his Doctoral Studies and officially became a Chiropractor in 2016. It is his mission to bring Chiropractic to as many people as possible and demonstrate the power of the human body to heal itself when the nervous system is clear of interference.
Originally from Newton, NC he moved to Asheville to attend undergraduate college and quickly fell in love with the mountains and the city. Not too long after he fell in love again, this time with his now wife Melissa. Together they have four children Michael, Mathew, Melody and Grayson. Dr. Stan found such a wonderful home in Asheville that after graduating from Sherman College he chose to start practice there and joined the team of doctors at The Joint Chiropractic in October of 2016.
Dr. Stan has a great love for cinema and when asked which four notable people would make up a dinner party Dr. Stan replied with Joss Whedon, Stephen King, George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino.
In addition to his traditional education Dr. Stan has been training in Heishin Ryu Karate for over 15 years and has earned the rank of 3rd Dan (3rd degree black belt), as well as a 1st Dan (1st degree black belt) in Toyama Ryu Iaido, a style of Japanese Sword. He has found great satisfaction over the years teaching students of all ages how to face their fears and build confidence in their ability to protect themselves.
He believes that life should be a process of constant improvement and that everyday a person should work to better some aspect of themselves, no matter how small the improvement.
Through striving to better ourselves we should also work to better the communities in which we live and offer a helping hand where needed. He further continues to educate those who come to him for chiropractic care in ways to improve the function of their bodies and how to protect themselves from disease. It is this aspect of constant improvement that Dr. Stan finds to be the greatest benefit of chiropractic care as every adjustments helps to improve the health of every individual.
Dr. Christina Wocial was born in New York City and raised in Rockland County (45 minutes north of NYC). She attended Rockland Community College and graduated with an Associates degree in Math and Science in 2010. Afterwards, she attended Life University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Doctorate degree in Chiropractic in 2014 and 2015 respectively. After graduation she worked in New York City for over a year, practicing Chiropractic Biophysics and the Gonstead Technique. In December of 2016, Dr. Christina joined The Joint Chiropractic Team, and has been loving working here ever since. For Dr. Christina, the very best thing about being a Chiropractor is watching patients smile when their pain has improved or is gone.
Her love for the mountains brought her and her husband, Matthew to Western North Carolina. They are both avid outdoor enthusiasts, love hiking, kayaking, four wheeling, target shooting, and working on their farm. They have three dogs: Akira, Sasha, and Star; two goats: Groot and Rain; a cat: Watermelon; and multiple chickens, ducks, and fish.
The one thing Dr. Christina must have in her fridge is milk or cream for coffee. She loves to drink coffee in the AM but does not like it back.
Four notable people, living or dead, that would comprise a dinner party with Dr. Christina would be: Jesus Christ, because if there were any idols she had, he would be it. Dr. Gonstead, because he was one of her role models throughout chiropractic school. And Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla because she has a lot of questions for them.
One of the coolest things Dr. Christina has done is fly an airplane. To her, this is cool because there really is nothing else like it in the world.
I grew up mainly in Chicago, except for 5 years between ages 4 and 9, I lived in Peru when my father worked for our church mission. I got my Bachelor's with a minor in Chemistry at Northern Arizona University. I joined The Joint in August 2016. What I love about Chiropractic is the incredible help you can give a patient. With no I'll side effects. I especially love adjusting children (no preconceived notions).
In my spare time I love being with my family. My wife's name is Carrie. We have 4 wonderful kids and 3 great dogs (a great Pyrenees, a toy poodle and a lab mix).
Dr. Dwight Whynot, originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) completed his undergraduate in Physical Education at Dalhousie University and completed his graduate education in 1999 from Logan College. In addition, he has been a nurse for 5 years. Dr. Whynot is a sports enthusiast, and in his free time loves to golf, scuba dive, hike, and watch his children compete in volleyball and soccer.
Dr. Brett Comeau joined the team at The Joint Chiropractic with over 22 years in the medical field. He spent 7 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in Canada before moving to the United States attending and graduating from Parker University as a Doctor of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, in 2004.
After short practice in the Dallas area, Dr. Comeau and his family relocated to the Asheville area. He has been a practicing chiropractor in WNC for over 12 years.
Dr. Comeau, his wife Kim, and son Cooper all enjoy spending time together locally taking advantage of all the outdoor activities.
Dr. Ward was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. He attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for his undergraduate studies where he majored in Criminal Justice. He completed his Doctoral degree in March 2018 at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC. He has worked with The Joint Chiropractic in Asheville since graduating from Chiropractic College. For Dr. Ward, the best thing about being in the Chiropractic field is the chance to give hope and help to those who feel as though they are all out of options.
Dr. Ward is married to Heather Ward, and they have been happily married for the last five years. They have two dogs, Rascal and Savannah. In their free time they enjoy outdoor activities, watching movies, and spending time with family.
The four notable people that would comprise Dr. Ward’s perfect dinner are: Donald Trump, Denzel Washington, Stan Setzer, and Bruce Lee. “As an avid movie watcher, these are some of my favorite actors and people….it would make for an interesting evening.”
Dr. George Ellwanger was born in Rockingham, NC and has lived most of his life here in North Carolina. He attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA and graduated from there in 1993. His first practice was in Williamsburg, VA and he has also practiced in Cary and Apex, NC. He joined The Joint in Asheville, NC in August of 2018 after coming out of retirement (having discovered it wasn’t for him).
Dr. George says that, “The best thing about being a chiropractor is having the ability to help others.” He believes that that is the reason we are all here on earth together in the first place, to serve one another.
Prior to entering the chiropractic field, Dr. George was a musician, a trombonist. He earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education at ASU with an emphasis on performance and he played with the US Air Force Bands in New England and Europe from 1985 to 1989.
He is a father (to several) and grandfather (to many more,23 and counting). He has 2 dogs, Powder and Marcel, and a cat, Mr. Jingles. We also have multiple chickens who have claimed us as their pets. They stare at us through our kitchen window like we are the zoo critters, until we feed them.
The one thing he requires in his fridge is food; most non-food items are just unappetizing.
Four notable people I would like to have a dinner party with are George Washington, because he could’ve been king, but chose otherwise; J.S. Bach, because his music is so intricate and fascinating (especially over a beer or two); Mike Rowe, because I find him refreshing; and Frederick Douglas, because he achieved so much through all his trials and tribulations as a former slave - his writings were absolutely brilliant.
The coolest thing I have ever done is for one concert with the Air Force band in Germany, I was asked to learn to play the handsaw for a country music concert and did. What made it so cool was that it provided me with more evidence that I could do almost anything that I put my mind to. Your mind can be your biggest detractor or your greatest benefactor; it’s all up to you.
