How Your Staycation Brings You Benefits

By Brandi Goodman

A vacation away from home may be what you're used to, but a staycation can be just as relaxing. You can plan the perfect vacation at home that allows you to relax and unwind. Having one can actually bring you a lot of benefits.

Reducing Depression Symptoms

Being stuck at home doing the same things each day can lead to feelings of depression. You feel stuck, down, and yearn for a more fulfilling life. Reduce these symptoms of depression by planning a staycation. You might be at home, but you don't have to stick to your daily routine. Plan fun things to do like you might on vacation. Pitch a tent right in your living room and pretend you're at camp. Change the decor and make believe that you're at a bed and breakfast. Hire a chef to do all the cooking or order delivery.

Eliminating Stress

The never-ending pile of laundry, the constant dishes, the meals to cook -- it can all feel like so much stress on your shoulders. You have to maintain the household and make sure it stays running so there's some sense of normalcy. This abundance of stress can quickly lead to sleepless nights, poor nutrition, and even illness. Eliminate some of this stress for a while by having a staycation. Order takeout each night for a few days in a row. Pack a duffel bag of clothes and only use what's inside just as you would on a regular vacation. Get paper plates and disposable cups, bowls, and cutlery so you won't have to worry about dishes. Simply enjoy the good things and skip out on the chores to ease some of your stress for a while.

Refreshing Your Relationship

Your relationship may be rocky as of late. People being stuck inside together doing the same old things can get tiring. Planning a staycation can help to refresh your relationship. Instead of fighting over who's going to do the dishes, don't do them. Plan a vacation at home that allows the two of you to do nothing for a few days but enjoy each other's company. Have a movie night. Sleep in a tent in the living room or in the yard. Play games. Interact with each other and have fun so you can go back to enjoying each other's company again.

Don't just stay inside. Have a full-on staycation that allows you to feel like you're able to get away from your normal life for a while. Change up the bedding. Put pictures of sunshine and beaches on your wall. Get festive curtains. You can make your place look like somewhere new and enjoy the benefits a vacation brings. It's good for your well-being.
