3 Common Sense Rules for a Healthier Diet

By Genevieve Cunningham

It seems as though we often make eating a healthy diet much more complicated than it has to be. We think that there's a special diet or a special supplement that makes the magic happen. We think that the healthy people have something figured out that we don't. But in a lot of cases, these people are simply using their common sense! They're choosing to do the basics, and they're choosing to do them over and over again. So how can we join the group of healthy eaters? If you want to make better decisions regarding your diet, take a look at these three common sense rules to start using today.

You Have to Drink More Water

We all know this. We know we can't fill up with sodas and sugary juices and not have consequences. But for many, drinking water is just so hard. There's no flavor, no bubbly texture, no fun! But drinking water is one of the most basic, most effective tips for improving your diet and your health quickly. It must be done. Start building your water drinking game slowly, and add more as you go. Before long, you'll learn to love the taste, the thirst quenching quality, and the way that your body feels when well hydrated.

You Can't Go Back for Second Helpings

It can be hard to say no to seconds when it tastes so good. But most of the time, we only crave the flavor and the comfort. We're not actually still hungry. Fill up your plate and eat slowly. This gives you more time to enjoy the food without actually having to eat more. Saying no to the second helping can literally save you hundreds -- and sometimes thousands -- of calories. Don't deviate, and results will happen.

Sugar Snacks Are Not Your Friend

Snacking is not the enemy. We often think that any sort of snack means we're derailing our healthy diet, but that's just not the case. The truth is that unhealthy snacks derail our progress. But healthy snacks? Fruit and veggies and small bites of protein can actually enhance your diet and the way that you feel. If you're eating cupcakes or candy or cinnamon rolls for a snack, by all means, stop! Instead, choose something healthy to keep hunger at bay, keep your metabolism moving, and to keep you away from the sugar packed sweet treats.

Eating a healthy diet can be simple. It's all about the everyday choices that you make. Use these easy rules to get your diet and your health moving in the right direction. With a few good choices on a daily basis, you can transform your body and health like never before.
