3 Tips for Staying on Top of Your Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

There comes a point in life when health simply has to come first. We often ignore our health until it's absolutely necessary to get care, but a much better approach is the preventative one. When we focus on prevention, we can nip problems in the bud before they ever arrive. But how do we do that? What steps can we take to stay on top of our health? It's probably easier than you think. If you would like to manage your health in a preventative and proactive way, take a look at these tips to help you accomplish the task.

Occasionally Check Your Weight

It goes against typical advice. Usually, you'll hear that the scale is the enemy. But the truth is that it doesn't have to be an enemy. The key is to use it sparingly. If you weigh yourself four times per day, it's too much. But weighing yourself once a week can help you keep yourself at a healthy weight. Make a schedule, stick to it, and keep track of whether or not your weight is at a healthy level.

Get Yearly Checkups

We take kids to checkups without hesitation. As adults, we think checkups are useless. But they're definitely not! Well checks for adults can help keep track of cholesterol, blood pressure trends, weight, heart rate, hormone levels, and other significant body issues. Plus, it gives you and your doctor a chance to discuss any issues that you may be having. If you're serious about prevention, well checks should be a part of your routine without any second thought.

Journal Your Feelings

Don't worry -- you don't have to spill your guts about your recent breakup or any personal issues. But it can help to write down how you're feeling in general. Every night, write down whether you're feeling strong or weak mentally. Write down if you've had an issue -- maybe heart palpitations or stomach pains. Over time, these can give you big clues to the overall state of your health. A health journal might seem silly, but it can literally save your life in the long run.

Staying on top of your health is the only way to properly care for yourself. Give these tips a try to see whether they can work for you. It doesn't take much to change your wellness, so get started today for a much brighter and healthier future.
