Balancing the Health of Your Children

By Donna Stark

When you take your children to the park or store, how many times do you find yourself telling them not to touch things? Or to put something back on the ground and to keep their fingers out of their nose and mouth? It doesn't matter if you let your children get dirty from head to toe or if you keep your kiddos squeaky clean, your main goal is to keep your children healthy and safe from potential germs, isn't it? And the best approach to take in order to achieve that is a balanced one.

Balancing Your Children's Health

Ensuring the safety and health of your child is a big responsibility, but that doesn't mean it is hard to do. Here are some tips from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic that will help keep your children out of the doctor's office during the upcoming cold and flu season.

  • Vitamin C - If your children like superheroes, they will love Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps fight those pesky little germs like nobody's business. If you can get your children to eat foods rich in this vitamin, such as broccoli, spinach, oranges, and strawberries, that's great! But if it's a struggle, you may need to find alternatives. There are plenty of over-the-counter gummy options that are kid-friendly!
  • Sleep - A healthy immune system relies on quality sleep. If the body doesn't get the recommended amount of rest, it won't be able to repair and refresh itself as it should, and as a result, the immune system will break down. Make sure your children are getting enough sleep throughout the night and if needed, some extra nap time during the day.
  • Hands - Teaching your children the importance of washing their hands and keeping them away from their face will make a huge difference in their overall health and wellness. We all know that kids love to touch things and are exposed to germs everywhere, but by taking this proactive step and encouraging this habit throughout the day, the likelihood of them getting sick can be reduced.
  • Physical activity - Increased energy, improved circulation, and reduced stress are just a few of the most important factors of a strong immune system, and you can get them from daily exercise. Children should have plenty of opportunities to run, climb, bike, and play throughout their day, so get your kids moving! It will do wonders for both their mental and physical health.

Making it Through the Cold and Flu Season

Whether they like to get dirty or remain clean, you can help your children stay healthy and continue to thrive during the cold and flu season ... and the entire year as well! Just stick with a balanced approach and take the necessary precautions to keep them safe.
