Inexpensive Items That Can Improve Health at Home

By Genevieve Cunningham

Working out at home is becoming incredibly popular. Maybe it's because gyms are expensive, or it might be because of the convenience of an at-home workout. It doesn't really matter why -- the fact of the matter is that working out at home can be incredibly effective. Of course, for some people it's a little bit intimidating. We wonder whether we're doing the right moves or whether we have the right equipment. We often end up spending way too much money on equipment that we don't even know how to use! Luckily, it doesn't have to be that way. If you're interested in keeping your workout at home, take a look at these inexpensive items that can take it up a notch.

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are very inexpensive, and yet, very effective. They provide the same benefits that weights provide. When you use resistance bands in your workout, they give your muscles a little extra push. This makes the workout feel a little harder, and it also forces your body to burn more calories. Check out a local fitness store or search online to find resistance bands in your price range and in a wide range of various strengths.

Humidifier

A humidifier can make a big difference in air quality. It's especially helpful when you're sick or congested. Humidifiers put moisture into the air so that it's less drying on the sinus cavities, which in turn makes you feel more comfortable. You can also buy small filters that help cleanse the air or that put a scent (think Vicks Vapor Rub) into the air that helps clear the sinuses and allows you to breathe. For a small price tag, it can make a big difference in your general health.

Pillow

Most people don't change their pillows often enough. Pillows are supposed to be comfortable and supportive. They're supposed to gently cradle both the head and the neck. If a pillow is too tall or too stiff, it can create tension in the neck. If it's too soft or too low, it can create breathing problems through the night. Invest in a good pillow and replace it when necessary. In doing so, you'll improve your sleep -- and therefore your health -- in no time at all.

Staying healthy doesn't have to be an expensive endeavor. It's true that you'll have to spend some time and money, but the end results will be more than worth it. Use these inexpensive ideas to get started, and boost your health and wellness before you know it.
