Dr. Crystal Martin became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s family of local healthcare providers in 2020 when she joined the Quail Springs clinic location. A graduate of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in zoology, she got her doctorate of chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas.
“The most gratifying part of being in the chiropractic field is that I absolutely love hearing all of my patients’ stories,” she says. “I love being part of their lives through the healing process, and chiropractic allows me to be a small part of their story.
“It’s so gratifying to utilize the art of chiropractic, the act of using nothing but my hands to help facilitate healing in another person. It’s a special type of magic.”
Dr. Crystal, as she prefers her patient call her, worked in Moore before she began working in Oklahoma City. She has also worked in Auburn, Calif., and the Washington cities of Eatonville and Olympia.
She enjoys time with her family and pets, and when she finds time for herself, she likes weightlifting, jogging, and spending time with books.
She remembers vividly the a-ha moment that led her to chiropractic.“I had the pleasure of working for an amazing female chiropractor, Ashleigh Muse, during my college years,” Dr Crystal says. “She taught yoga, treated patients, and ran a whole foods co-op here in Oklahoma in the 1990s when there was really nothing like it at the time. It was a fantastic experience, and I knew then that I wanted to be a chiropractor.”
She loves working for The Joint Chiropractic because of its affordable model, she says: “It makes it easy for patients to afford the care they need. The Joint team works hard to ensure every patient gets the best care with maximum ease.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Crystal says she always has avocados stocked in her kitchen “because healthy fats are life.”
If she could bring together any four persons from history for the dinner party of her dreams, she would send invitations to an eclectic group. “I traveled the world through Anthony Bourdain’s television shows and books; he was a gifted writer and master storyteller,” Dr. Crystal says. “I would also include actor Alan Rickman because who wouldn’t want to talk with Professor Snape? If you’ve never heard of arctic explorer Ernest Shackleton, do yourself a favor and read up on his truly unbelievable explorations! And finally, I would include comedian and TV host Trevor Noah, whose modern autobiography on growing up ‘colored’ in Apartheid South Africa is a riveting story that is both heartbreaking and hilarious.”
Among the most interesting things she has ever experienced was a graduation gift. “My parents blessed me with a hunting safari in Namibia, Africa, after graduating from school,” Dr. Crystal says. “It is the only time I have ever hunted, we ate all of what we shot, and to this day I have my SCI [Safari Club International] gold medal oryx skull mount on my wall.”
