Forget the Flu: Do This to Stay Well

By Virginia Laird

Staying well can be tricky. While there is little you can do to completely avoid illness, there are a few things you can do to deter it. Making healthy hygiene part of your daily routine can be helpful. Still, there are plenty of other things you can do too. A few things to consider adding to your lifestyle to help keep illness away include:

  • Stay home when you don't feel well
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Take your vitamins
  • Choose a healthy diet

Stay Home When You Don't Feel Well

When you are ill, your body is more susceptible to getting other illnesses on top of what you already have. This can be detrimental to your health, and at times require serious medical care. Rather than getting out and about while you are sick, it is best that you stay home. This can allow your body to get the rest you need to fight off whatever illness is getting you down. Furthermore, staying at home can prevent you from spreading the illness you have with others. Do yourself a favor and stay home this flu season when you don't feel well.

Get Plenty of Rest

Health and wellness experts stress the importance of getting the sleep you need, especially during flu season. It is advised that the average adult should get at least six hours of sleep each night. For many, this may require giving yourself a bedtime. As you sleep, your immune system works to clean up and kick out the illnesses trying to take over, making your rest more important than ever. Start right away making your sleep a top priority.

Take Your Vitamins

Giving your body the vitamins it needs to stay well can be helpful in keeping the flu at bay. Experts admit that taking a daily vitamin can be helpful. Your vitamin should include some Vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system. Consider adding a vitamin to your daily healthcare regimen.

Choose a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is another way to help the body prevent and fight off illness. It is advised that you fill your diet with plenty of fruits and veggies, which can offer natural vitamins and minerals needed to help keep you well. Start now by making the necessary changes to your diet to help keep you healthy.

Now you are ready to begin fighting the flu before it takes over your home.
