3 Ways to Stay Active Outdoors This Fall
By Genevieve Cunningham
The fall is on its way in. The hot steamy weather is slowly starting to disappear, and the cooler winds are slowly beginning to take its place. For many people, this is an exciting time of year. The weather is inviting, people are friendly, and getting outside is easy and desirable. And while spirits are lifting with the changing season, it’s a great time to think about improving your health before the holidays arrive. But how can you do this without putting a damper on the fun of fall? Just take it outside! Take a look at these three ways to stay active outside this fall in order to boost your health and feel better than ever.
Put on Your Hiking Shoes
Hiking is an excellent way to stay fit through the fall months. Whether your particular area has the classic changing colors or not, you can bet that some sort of change will happen, including cooler winds and a freshness in the air. If you’re serious about hiking, look for a local trail that is a bit of a challenge. If you’re a novice, find a beginner’s trail or begin with a simple walk through nature.
Hop on a Bike
Whether you’re deliberately going for a ride or just using it as a means to get around town, biking is a great outdoor activity to carry on into fall. Biking works the bottom half of the body specifically, toning the quads, hamstrings, and glutes. It can also, because it requires quite a bit of stamina, improve your cardio as a whole and even help you to lose weight. If you don’t already have a bike, you can get a decent one new at your local store, or go ahead and hit up some yard sales for a used version.
Get Involved in Sports
The fall seems to be ripe with sports of all kinds. While many of these are viewed on a professional level, this also seems to be the time of year that many people form amateur groups and have a little fun. Soccer, football, basketball … the options are likely endless. Find a group of friends, pick a sport and an open night of the week, and get a little exercise in a laidback manner.
The fall is a time of year that brings great weather, cozy nights, and the anticipation of the holidays. But it also brings a new chance to get fit and healthy. Use these fun outdoor activities to get you moving down the right path, and you may have a body that changes for the better in no time at all.
