Exotic Superfoods That You Should Learn to Love

By Genevieve Cunningham

We all want to eat healthy. We want to be the perfect weight with the perfect amount of fat and the perfect muscles. Unfortunately, we also want our diets to be fun and delicious, which as you probably already know, seems near impossible with healthy food like lettuce, celery, and endless lean meat. If you feel this way, you’re in luck. Not all healthy foods have to be tasteless and boring! Take a look at these delicious exotic foods that are healthy and nutrient packed to add to your diet today.

Goji Berries

These are a delicious Chinese superfood that the western world is just beginning to understand. Goji berries are deep red colored berries that are packed full of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and amino acids. They’re also thought to improve circulation in the body. They are healthier than blueberries, more potent than prunes, and still taste good. You may not be able to find them in every grocery store, but they can be found in most health food stores around the country.

Edamame

If you’re a fan of sushi, you may already know of this food. They are often served steamed and salted with sushi. Edamame, which is another way of saying fresh soybeans, is packed with protein, calcium, and essential vitamins. They make a great snack, a nice side, or can even be thrown into a salad. These are easily accessible, as they can be found at most health food stores and most whole grocery stores as well.

Maca

The maca root is already known in some health circles. This root is nutrient dense, laying claim to potassium, calcium, phosphorous, zinc, and a wide array of vitamins. It’s thought to help lower blood pressure, balance water, and control hormones in the body. Most who use maca buy it in powder form. It can be mixed into smoothies for easy consumption. You can also buy it in a pill, which can be swallowed with a quick gulp of water.

Eating healthy definitely doesn’t have to be boring. If you’re willing to get creative and maybe even a little exotic, there are plenty of foods to fill a fun menu. Use these as a starting point, but don’t be afraid to branch out even more to eat an exciting, delicious, super healthy diet for years to come.
