3 Ways to Limit Calories for Weight Loss
By Genevieve Cunningham
Calories sometimes feels like a dirty word. Almost everything that we consume has calories. They’re necessary for life. But honestly, many of us only get caught up in calories when we’re trying to lose weight. And this makes them feel more like a chore than a fact of life. Unfortunately, if you really are trying to lose weight, then counting calories is necessary. And hard. If you would like to make losing weight easier, take a look at these easy ways to cut calories and get in better health before you know it.
Eat in a Window
Don't worry, this doesn't mean to eat in an actual window. It means to eat in a window of time. If we restrict the actual hours that are spent eating, we often automatically reduce the amount of calories that we're eating. Some people take this to the extreme and only eat in a four- or six-hour window. But you really don't have to do this. Try eating in a 10- or 12-hour window and leaving the nighttime food-free. You may be surprised at what a big difference this can make and how much it reduces your snacking and overall caloric intake.
Drink Less Alcohol
Many of us are guilty of drinking a little too much alcohol. Even if you’re not drinking to excess, you may be taking in quite a few calories. Drinking even one more mixed drink or one more glass of wine can greatly affect overall caloric intake. Assess your drinking habits and cut back if you need to. For some people, the simple act of cutting a bit of alcohol is enough to help them shed the pounds.
Learn Correct Portion Sizes
In America, our portion sizes are gigantic. It’s easy to think that these larger portion sizes are correct simply because it’s what we’re surrounded by. But most of the time, these portions are way too big. Try using the palm of your hand as a guide. If a helping is bigger than your palm, it’s probably too big. Relearning portion sizes help many people cut calories without even realizing they’re doing so.
If you’re trying to lose weight, you probably need to cut calories. Luckily, this doesn’t have to be especially difficult. Just use these tips to cut back in a natural way. It won’t take long for the cutting to be effective and for you to feel better around the middle and in your own skin from here on out.
