Yoga Poses That Help Burn Belly Fat

Though most people will tell you that you can't spot reduce fat and you have to engage in a full workout to lose weight, there are some options for burning belly fat in particular. Certain yoga poses can help to target the abs and work to burn fat faster. You'll be developing your muscle tone in this area, improving your metabolism, and enhancing your ability to lose weight in your stomach and all over.

Plank Pose

You may not realize that a plank is actually a yoga pose. You can perform this move both down on your forearms and up on your hands. The point is to keep your back straight and your body aligned and hold yourself in position. Your abs will be targeted as you also improve arm and back strength.

Boat Pose

The boat pose, actually called navasana, works similarly to the jack knife. You perform this from a seated position. Lean back slightly and lift your legs in front of you, holding the position. You may feel your abs shaking as you attempt to hold yourself this way. It's also great for your hips. 

Mountain Pose

You may feel as though you're just standing when you perform a mountain pose, but it's so much more than that. Tadasana works to improve your digestion and circulation, both of which are necessary for weight loss and getting rid of the fat around your midsection. Make sure you're standing straight with proper posture, arms to your sides with your palms facing outward. Breathe deeply as you lift up on the balls of your feet, sway side to side, and lightly lift your knees before balancing yourself back to normal position. 

Raised Foot Pose

Uttanpadasana, the raised foot pose, starts with you laying on your back. It is beneficial for your lower abs and hips. Lay flat with your legs outstretched and your arms at your sides. When you're ready, raise your legs as far as you can and hold the position for at least 15 seconds. When you're strong enough, you should be able to raise your legs so they're pointed toward the ceiling and hold for longer intervals, such as 30 seconds.

Getting rid of stubborn belly fat is going to take time no matter what approach you use. Engage in these yoga poses regularly while also eating healthier and drinking plenty of water for your best chance at eliminating the fat from your body and shrinking your stomach. You'll gain additional benefits as well, such as more energy, a better metabolism, and better breathing and posture.
