Meet The Doctors

Dr. Bethaney L. Bradshaw, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Bethaney L. Allison was born and raised in Tazewell, Virginia. She completed her undergraduate education at Virginia Tech where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2010 to pursue her education in chiropractic. In 2013, she earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After receiving her National Board certification and state licensure in July of 2013, she began practicing in Greenville, South Carolina.

Dr. Bethaney started her chiropractic career with The Joint in 2013 and in 2015 took some time off to explore other options in chiropractic care. After a little over a year of soul searching she returned to The Joint because the philosophy and values of The Joint were exactly what she believed about chiropractic care. Dr. Bethaney became a chiropractor in hopes to improve people’s quality of life and she strongly believes the best way to do that is through routine and affordable chiropractic care.

Whether she’s cruising the streets of the Carolinas on her motorcycle or riding four-wheelers in the mountains of Virginia, Dr. Bethaney enjoys the great outdoors and motorsports. She fell in love with all the great state of South Carolina has to offer and while she may be a Virginia girl born and raised, she’s a Carolina girl at heart.

Dr. Austin Kemmerlin, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Austin Kemmerlin became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when he began serving residents in the Pee Dee region, where he continues doing the work he finds so gratifying.

Dr. Kemmerlin earned his doctorate at Sherman College in Boiling Springs after getting a bachelor’s degree in biology from Francis Marion University in Florence.

The doctor has a wide variety of hobbies, many that include travel; he loves visiting new cities and experiencing new foods and cultures, and visiting major art museums and breweries around the U.S. “I never drink the same beer twice,” he says. As well, he has a passion for playing ice hockey. An amateur chef, if he weren’t a chiropractor he would follow a path straight to a professional kitchen.

Perhaps the only thing he likes more than traveling is his St. Bernard, Bernie, “who goes everywhere with me.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

If he could bring together any four people from history for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Kemmerlin would love to sit down with David Bowie, Barack Obama, Anthony Bourdain, and Lin Manuel Miranda. “Bowie was the best trendsetter, a mastermind at influencing culture and reinventing himself with every decade that passed,” he says. “Obama ignited a new interest in modern politics on both sides of the aisle, and that is so important. Bourdain is the most important among the group because Tony lived life ot the absolute fullest, immersing himself into different cultures around the world. In my opinion, Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the most creative minds ever who captures evens in song like no one else; I’d like to pitch a few Broadway ideas to him.”

Dr. Kemmerlin says the coolest thing he has done is live in New York City. “I would eat at many different Michelin Star restaurants,” he says. “I have so many remaining on my list to try around the country.”

A couple of things he always keeps stocked in his refrigerator is dill pickle juice and extra spicy salsa.

Dr. Brittany Scoggins, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Brittany Scoggins joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2017 with her arrival at the Anderson clinic location. A graduate of South Carolina, she earned a bachelor’s of science before attending Sherman College of Chiropractic where she received her doctorate.

Dr. Brittany, as she prefers being called, said service to others is the best thing about being in the chiropractic field. “I love making a positive difference in patients’ lives by helping them reach an optimal state of health,” she says.

A product of Boiling Springs, S.C., she previously worked in Greenville before becoming a healthcare provider for Anderson as its local chiropractor.

When she’s not working, Dr. Brittany enjoys her pet Labrador, Riggins. Dr. Brittany also likes spending time with her family, “especially playing with my niece and nephew. As well, she enjoys camping and playing tennis or softball; she was a third baseman on the Spartanburg Methodist College team.

Her own experience led her to pursue a career in chiropractic care. “I played sports growing up and in college,” she says. “I started getting adjusted due to sports injuries and for overall health while growing up.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Cheese is the one thing Dr. Brittany always has stocked in her refrigerator. “Can you really have enough,” she asks.

If she could sit down with a couple of famous people for the dinner party of her dreams, Dr. Brittany would love to break bread and pick the brains of television talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg. “Ellen is funny,” she says, “and Ruth Bader Ginsburg has done so much for women’s rights and equality.”

Dr. Brittany’s softball career has led her to some pretty cool experiences. She played in the Little League Softball World Series in 1999, and played in two National Junior College Athletic Association Championships while at Spartanburg Methodist 2008-09.

Dr. Daniel Middleton, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Daniel Middleton is in his second stint with The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers; he began serving residents in Anderson in 2022 after having worked part-time back in 2013 while he was also teaching at Tri County and Greenville technical colleges.

“I love the chiropractic philosophy which, to me, is the best part, and I’ve always thought of chiropractic as ‘a philosophy you can touch with your hands,’” she says. “It’s a way to change people’s lives, and I like the times when people respond well to an adjustment after years of pain when they have ‘already tried everything else.’”

A product of Charlotte, N.C., Dr. Dan spent weekends and summers about an hour south, in Jefferson, S.C. He worked previously in Anderson, Greenville, and Spartanburg.

He received his doctorate from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Boiling Springs after having attended University of South Carolina in Columbia and USC Spartanburg and Spartanburg Methodist. He finished with majors in English and philosophy.

He, and his wife, have a terrier named Bryanna and three adult step-daughters.

In Case You Didn’t Know

If the doctor could sit down with any three people from history, he would love to share a table with authors Robert Heinlein and Tom Clancy, and entrepreneur Elon Musk. “Heinlein is one of my favorite authors, along with Clancy, who seems like he would be able to talk at length about almost anything,” Dr. Dan says. “And I’d like to talk to Musk about why he refuses to be Iron Man.”

Among the coolest experiences of Dr. Dan’s life was that time he went skydiving. “There were two separate periods,” he says. “The first was about a dozen jumps with the Skydiving Club at USC, and the second was with a group organized by some crazy New Zealanders -- one who is now president of a chiropractic college in New Zealand. It was lots of fun and I would do it again if I wasn’t so sure that, at my age, I would break something on landing.”

The doctor says the one thing he always keeps stocked in his refrigerator is Duke’s Mayonnaise.

Dr. Lauren Hufham, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Lauren Hufham joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when she began serving residents in the Greenville region, where she continues doing the work she finds so fulfilling.

Dr. Lauren -- or you can call her Dr. H -- works at both the McBee Station and Pelham clinics in Greenville, as well as the Anderson SC location.

“Chiropractic really does help solve the underlying cause for issues in the body, whether physiological or structurally,” she says. “It isn’t a band-aid. I’ve always wanted to be in the field of helping people. I love the ability to serve a community in ways that no health profession is doing. Getting to the root cause of problems and helping people is what I love about this profession.”

Dr. H loves her patients. “They have the best stories, attitudes, and outlooks on life,” she says. “It’s so much fun getting people on the table and learning a new thing, or just laughing about something that happened during their day.”

A product of Baltimore, her beagle/husky mix Rylie keeps her on her toes. Dr. H loves the outdoors, especially hiking because it’s so calming, and binge-watching television if she’s not spending time with friends.

She earned her doctorate at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Boiling Springs. Before that, she earned a bachelor’s in athletic training from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.

“I knew I wanted to help people and do it in conservative ways,” she says. “When I worked at a chiropractic office in the summer between undergraduate schooling, I saw how many people the chiropractors helped. They helped grandparents be able to play with their grandkids, dads and moms get back into their hobbies and things they loved doing, and helped newborn babies latch and relieve common newborn issues. It was amazing watching chiropractors change lives, and I wanted to be able to do the same thing.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. H says that the dinner party of her dreams would include Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, and Robin Williams. “Great music and laughs,” she says. “It would be one epic night.”

Her favorite author right now is Colleen Hoover. “I love a good book that allows you to actually feel things while reading, the suspense of not wanting to put it down, always on your toes kind of deal,” she says. “She captures all of that in every book I’ve read by her.”

She always keeps lemon pepper seasoning stocked in her kitchen: “I use it on absolutely everything.”

One of her favorite bits of advice is, “it’s a bad day, not a bad life.”

Dr. Bernardo Perkinson, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Bernardo Perkinson relishes the opportunity to serve the community as a member of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers at the Anderson clinic location.

Dr. B, as he’s called by his patients, chose the chiropractic field because he saw the benefits of treatment firsthand. “Chiropractic changed the direction of my life starting with my health as a patient many years ago,” he says. “Now I get to dedicate my life to help people of all ages, restoring their health the way that chiropractic helped me.”

The South Carolina native has lived in Columbia and Charleston and worked as a chiropractor in Greenville before joining The Joint team in 2022. “I enjoy seeing people making a daily priority to get adjusted and I am looking forward to them bringing their friends and family,” Dr. B says. “Watching chiropractic in action is amazing.”

He has seen the state of South Carolina grow and believes that many residents have become health conscious. “But the status of health in our society is not where it should be,” he says. “My mission is to help reduce the gap.”

Dr. B and his wife enjoy music and outdoor activities. They have two children who are active in soccer, baseball, and martial arts. The family has an aquarium with freshwater fish.

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Dr. B earned a Doctorate at the Sherman College of Chiropractic in Boiling Springs, S.C. He specializes in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care.

“After going to chiropractic school to become a doctor and really understanding how awesome chiropractic is, and also as a parent, I see how important it is to get kids checked as early as possible and throughout their life,” says Dr. B, who claims the greatest experience of his life was having children.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. B always has orange juice stocked in his refrigerator.

If he could invite anyone from history to the ideal dinner party, he would include the developer of chiropractic, BJ Palmer, entrepreneur Elon Musk, former President Donald Trump, and comedian Chevy Chase.

His favorite book is The Richest Man in Babylon because “our society would be more fruitful if everyone learned to save money.” If he wrote an autobiography it would be titled “The Adjustor.”

Dr. B’s greatest piece of advice is to treat others as you’d like them to treat you.

Dr. Josh Black, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Anderson

Dr. Josh Black joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when he began serving residents at the Anderson, Spartanburg, and The Point clinics. He relishes the opportunity to serve the community with work that he finds so fulfilling.

“My favorite thing about being in the chiropractic field is helping people discover their body's innate ability to heal, and helping people become the best possible versions of themselves through the promotion of total wellness,” he says. “I am a people person at heart and I enjoy making connections with individuals in my community. I love each and every opportunity to meet someone new and learn about what's going on in their life, even if it's only during the span of a 5-minute visit!”

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Josh, as his patients call him, grew up in Charlotte and later settled in South Carolina.

He met his girlfriend, Patricia, in chiropractic school. She is from Bayamon, Puerto Rico and loves to surf, but now that Dr. Josh gave her a snowboard she likes hitting the slopes too. They have a Doberman pinscher named Doby. “She may look imposing, but she is the biggest sweetheart in the world, and the true definition of a ‘velcro dog,’” he says.

After 23 years playing baseball, Dr. Josh hung up the spikes and now enjoys golfing, playing video games, reading, and snowboarding in the winter.

A graduate of North Greenville University with a bachelor’s degree in health science, Dr. Josh specialized in kinesiology. He earned a Doctorate at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Boiling Springs, S.C.

“I always knew that I wanted to help people (my mom is a registered nurse, so that was instilled in me early on), but after doing some shadowing and being around the medical community for a little while in high school, I knew that route was not for me,” he says. “I had two amazing chiropractic influences in my life while growing up in Charlotte. The father of a lifelong friend and teammate owned his own practice, yet was at every baseball game, and a sports chiropractor in the area helped me get back on the baseball field when traditional methods (orthopedists, physical therapists, etc.) could not help me. At that point, it was a no-brainer for me and I have not looked back since!” One of his most memorable situations as a chiropractor was giving an adjustment to an infant for the first time. “Watching how she went from fussy and irritated to calm and relaxed was something I will never forget.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

When you look in Dr. Josh’s refrigerator you’re likely to find two favorites. “I am a huge milk guy so I usually have a gallon of milk on deck,” he says. “I also recently discovered mayochup, which is exactly what it sounds like -- a mix of mayo and ketchup -- and it is the bomb, so I usually have a bottle of that as well.”

If he created a guest list of famous people for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Josh would invite former MLB player Larry Wayne "Chipper" Jones Jr., actor Tom Cruise, “an overall interesting (and weird) guy,” and comedian Bill Burr.

A high point of Dr. Josh’s life was walking across the commencement stage for his Chiropractic degree. “After so much hard work and blood, sweat, and tears, finally getting my diploma and putting that ‘DC’ behind my name was amazing.”

A big fan of futuristic, sci-fi material, Dr. Josh says the book 1984 stuck with him since high school. “The overall message of that book is pretty cool.”

Some of his best advice came from his father. When Dr. Josh would get upset about striking out or making an error in baseball his dad would say, “What matters most is what happens next.”

For others, Dr. Josh has the following advice: “Control the controllables. The past is unchangeable and the future hasn't happened yet; stay in the present.” He likes a similar quote from President Theodore Roosevelt: "Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are."
