Dr. Bethaney L. Allison was born and raised in Tazewell, Virginia. She completed her undergraduate education at Virginia Tech where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2010 to pursue her education in chiropractic. In 2013, she earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After receiving her National Board certification and state licensure in July of 2013, she began practicing in Greenville, South Carolina.
Dr. Bethaney started her chiropractic career with The Joint in 2013 and in 2015 took some time off to explore other options in chiropractic care. After a little over a year of soul searching she returned to The Joint because the philosophy and values of The Joint were exactly what she believed about chiropractic care. Dr. Bethaney became a chiropractor in hopes to improve people’s quality of life and she strongly believes the best way to do that is through routine and affordable chiropractic care.
Whether she’s cruising the streets of the Carolinas on her motorcycle or riding four-wheelers in the mountains of Virginia, Dr. Bethaney enjoys the great outdoors and motorsports. She fell in love with all the great state of South Carolina has to offer and while she may be a Virginia girl born and raised, she’s a Carolina girl at heart.
Dr. Clarence “Clay” Taylor -- You can call him Clay or Dr. Clay if you’d like -- joined The Joint Chiropractic family of healthcare providers in 2019. He received his doctorate of chiropractic from Life University
“The thing I like best about being in the chiropractic field is that I get to help people be better than they thought possible,” Dr. Clay says. “I’ve achieved my lifelong dream since I was 12 years old.
He enjoys biking, weight training, and reading alongside his pit bull Jenny and poodle Loki in his spare time.
Dr. Clay’s first-hand experience with a chiropractor led him down the chiropractic path.
“When I was 12, I was an injured gymnast,” he says. “I couldn’t sleep and I couldn’t breathe without pain. A chiropractor fixed me.”
As a native of Anderson, Dr. Clay’s favorite thing about working in his hometown clinic is pretty obvious: “I get to work in the community that raised me.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Clay says the one thing he must have in his refrigerator “is gluten-free chicken tenders. I make the best chicken sandwiches.”
If he could invite any four people to the dinner party of his dreams, he would include “The Rock,” Dwayne Johnson, as well as self-help guru Tony Robbins, actor Tom Hanks, and physicist Albert Einstein.
“They are all major influencers,” Dr. Clay says, “and I probably wouldn’t have to pay for my tab.”
The coolest thing he has ever done was to go skydiving. “Words fall short of the feeling of falling for thousands of feet,” he says.
Dr. Kevin Cook became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 when he began serving residents at the Anderson clinic location. He loves serving patients here.
“The thing I like best about being a chiropractor is seeing and feeling the change in my patients as care progresses,” he says. “I take great pride and satisfaction in helping others.”
Dr. Kevin -- you can call him by his first name -- is a graduate of University of South Carolina Upstate who focused on psychology and biology; he earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies before receiving his doctorate of chiropractic from Sherman College of Chiropractic.
A native of Anderson, Dr. Kevin enjoys driving, listening to music, and being outdoors when he’s not spending time with patients or his cat, a Maine coon tabby named Loki.
Dr. Kevin’s interest in chiropractic as a young man was confirmed after a particularly depressing time in his life. “I found chiropractic from a job search algorithm in eighth grade,” he says. “I found out why much later. In 2016, I lost my grandfather to congestive heart failure. Less than three months later, I lost a friend to suicide. The first time I cared about surviving for my own sake after the funerals was after I got a chiropractic adjustment.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
The one thing Dr. Kevin always keeps in his refrigerator? “Cheese,” he declares. “Need I say more.”
If he could bring together any four characters from history for the dinner party of his dreams, he would include Sue Brown, the developer of bio-geometric integration, and chiropractic pioneers Daniel David Palmer (who founded it) and Clarence Gonstead. “I would include them for an incredibly nerdy night of chiropractic talk,” he says, “and I would include celebrity chef Alton Brown to make the meal.”
Dr. Kevin says the coolest thing he has done was have dinner with Franz Gruter. “He’s a member of the National Council of Switzerland, which is analogous to our House of Representatives,” he says. “It was quite an experience to see how you never know who other people know.”
Dr. Austin Kemmerlin became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when he began serving residents in the Pee Dee region, where he continues doing the work he finds so gratifying.
Dr. Kemmerlin earned his doctorate at Sherman College in Boiling Springs after getting a bachelor’s degree in biology from Francis Marion University in Florence.
The doctor has a wide variety of hobbies, many that include travel; he loves visiting new cities and experiencing new foods and cultures, and visiting major art museums and breweries around the U.S. “I never drink the same beer twice,” he says. As well, he has a passion for playing ice hockey. An amateur chef, if he weren’t a chiropractor he would follow a path straight to a professional kitchen.
Perhaps the only thing he likes more than traveling is his St. Bernard, Bernie, “who goes everywhere with me.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If he could bring together any four people from history for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Kemmerlin would love to sit down with David Bowie, Barack Obama, Anthony Bourdain, and Lin Manuel Miranda. “Bowie was the best trendsetter, a mastermind at influencing culture and reinventing himself with every decade that passed,” he says. “Obama ignited a new interest in modern politics on both sides of the aisle, and that is so important. Bourdain is the most important among the group because Tony lived life ot the absolute fullest, immersing himself into different cultures around the world. In my opinion, Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the most creative minds ever who captures evens in song like no one else; I’d like to pitch a few Broadway ideas to him.”
Dr. Kemmerlin says the coolest thing he has done is live in New York City. “I would eat at many different Michelin Star restaurants,” he says. “I have so many remaining on my list to try around the country.”
A couple of things he always keeps stocked in his refrigerator is dill pickle juice and extra spicy salsa.
