3 Ways to Calm the Nerves Without Drugs

By Genevieve Cunningham

Anxiety is a big problem in our world today. Most would argue that it’s the lifestyle that so many of us lead that leads to this level of anxiety, but the truth is that the cause matters little. The more important detail is the management. How can we lower anxiety levels and keep our bodies and minds healthy? If you want to get your anxiety under control without turning to drugs, take a look at these tips to incorporate into your life today.

Learn to Say No

The word NO is a complete sentence. If you find yourself with excessive anxiety and a nervous stomach, try utilizing this powerful word in your life. When we overextend ourselves, we get anxious and nervous and overwhelmed. But we don’t have to put too much on our plates. With a simple NO, we can leave enough room for relaxation, family, fun, and leisure. And when we balance our lives in this manner, we often find less anxiety as a result.

Set the Mood at Home

If your home is chaotic, you are far more likely to suffer from anxiety. While we can’t control everything that goes on in our homes, we can help to set the mood. Keep it clean and organized. Light candles or use dimmers at night in order to wind down properly. Stay busy at home by making sure there are plenty of things to do besides sit and watch TV. If you take care of your home and set the mood properly, you may at least be able to leave the anxiety at the door.

Slow Down

We live in a fast paced world. We’re always on the move, rushing from job to event to home to other obligation. It’s a lot to handle. When we get too busy, anxiety tends to ramp up. In order to keep the anxiety under control, it’s important to find the balance between staying busy and slowing down. Keep a full schedule, but make sure there is enough time to get from one thing to another without constantly rushing. This will help calm the body and the mind, which then helps to stifle the anxiety.

Sometimes you need help to get rid of anxiety, and that’s OK. If you need help, seek out the care of a professional. But if your anxiety is slight, use these tips to manage it and keep it under control. With some determination and a bit of willpower, you may be able to keep anxiety at bay for a healthier and happier life.
