Stretch for a Better Day!
By Donna Stark
Drinking fancy coffees or performance drinks in the morning might supply your body with a fair amount of energy, but be warned! That energy will be sure to waste away after just a couple of hours, completely derailing your day and leaving you in a puddle of fatigue and low productivity. Fortunately, there is something that you can try instead. It's different, it's natural, but best of all, it will count toward your daily exercise minutes too. It's stretching, and it can help you start your day on a refreshed foot!
Morning Stretching Can Make a Difference
If you are one of the millions of people who are having sleepless nights, waking up feeling refreshed might seem more like a dream than it does reality. But it doesn't have to be that way. By adding some stretches to your morning routine, you may be able to eliminate those cups of coffee and cans of energy drinks. Take a look at some of the benefits that come from stretching.
- Improved posture - Incorporating stretches that focus on your tight back and chest muscles will help combat your poor posture and hunched shoulders. Over time, they can also help reduce the aches and pain you are feeling which will give your body the chance to rest and the break it needs.
- Increased blood flow - Daily stretching can help increase circulation to all the parts of your body, including your brain which is especially helpful right after you wake up when your brain is still foggy from sleep. It can also improve your day by increasing focus, concentration, and productivity.
- More energy - Morning stretches help to get your blood flowing which, in turn, helps you to "get up and go." And by reducing the aches and pains in your body, stretching also promotes better sleep. You can look forward to waking up feeling completely rested and ready to tackle the day, and you won't have to deal with those afternoon crashes you typically experience after drinking caffeinated beverages.
Wake Up and Stretch!
Trying to incorporate stretching into your already busy morning can be challenging. However, the benefits that you will get far outweigh any inconvenience you think might occur. You can look forward to more productivity, increased concentration and creativity, and plenty of energy to get you through the day simply by stretching at least 10 to 30 minutes every morning. So what do you say? Are you ready to get started?
