Cleaning the Body From the Inside: Is It a Thing?

By Genevieve Cunningham

With spring finally here, many people may be getting the cleaning bug. This is the time of year when everyone feels the need to purge. The house gets clean, the yard is weeded and mowed, and the garage is stacked and organized. But what about the body? Believe it or not, now is also a great time to clean the body. But how do we do this? Is the newest detox drink the answer? What about an extreme new diet? Take a look at how and why you should consider cleaning the body from the inside out to feel better than ever this spring.

Start With Water

Water is a great tool for cleaning anything, and the body is no exception. When water intake is increased, it helps to clear waste and toxins out of the digestive tract, which then results in positive benefits for the body as a whole. Clear skin, weight loss, and improved concentration are just a few of the side effects that may become noticeable.

Increase Fiber Intake

Getting enough fiber is essential to helping the body clear out waste. Without fiber, you may notice unnecessary constipation or additional bloat. But don’t go crazy with this concept. Too much fiber can cause bloat as well. Instead of opting for a pill or fiber powder, just choose foods that contain fiber. Things such as lentils, broccoli, and peas contain enough fiber to get the body moving in the right direction.

Skip Detoxes and Laxatives

It might be tempting to choose detox teas or juices to get the ball rolling, but resist the temptation if possible. While these items may have a place, they are generally not needed for the average person. These are designed to give your cleansing process a quick and forceful boost. While this might feel productive at the beginning, they have the potential to cause more harm than good. Stick to the basics, and you’re more likely to see results that last.

So is cleaning out the body really a thing? Yes! But it’s incredibly important that it's done correctly. Go the natural route instead of forcing your body into a state of confusion. With some patience and a plan, the body will be the cleanest part of spring, and you’ll feel better than ever in no time at all.
