Colds are Coming! Keep Your Health With These Tips!

By Genevieve Cunningham

Winter is coming. OK, so maybe Game of Thrones references are so over. And maybe it's not actually winter, but only the very beginnings of fall. But you still get the point. The cool winds are on their way, and we are so ready. We're ready for hot cocoa and apple cider. We're ready for giant sweaters and comfy boots. Bring it on. But there's one aspect of fall that we're not ready for. Sickness. The fall seems to bring cold winds -- and also colds! Luckily, there may be a few things that you can do to help yourself stay well and enjoy the fun. To get ready before fall officially arrives, take a look at these tips to start now and continue through the season.

Supplement Well

Supplements can help you stay healthy. They give your body an extra kick in times of need, and fill in nutritional gaps at other times. For staying free and clear of illness, try adding Vitamin C to your supplement routine. This is a great immune booster that can work all year. Some people also choose to add an elderberry supplement during the fall months since it can help your body fight viruses such as the flu.

Avoid the Illness

If you could, you would, right? Even though we can't completely avoid germs, we can take precautions. If you know someone is sick, stay away from them. If you touch a lot of objects, wash your hands. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze. Keep hand sanitizer or wipes in your bag so that you can use them when necessary. You may still get sick even with these precautions, but at least you'll be acting in a proactive way that keeps you healthier longer.

Don't Stop Moving

It's tempting to stop exercising in the fall. The winds are getting cooler and the clothes are getting bigger. That summer body seems so far away, so what's the rush? But if you want to stay well, don't stop moving. Exercise helps the immune system and overall function of the body stay strong. Those who exercise regularly are, in general, less sick than those who skip it. Even if you feel the need to cut back on working out, don't give it up. Stay moving to stay well all the way through the season.

Colds happen. Sickness happens. The flu happens. But we can still do our best to keep it away. Use these tips to keep germs and illness far away so that you can enjoy the fun of the season without the typical negatives that come with it.
