If you're ever stuck at home and unable to go out, then delivery may be needed to get yourself some food. Let's face it, though, not all delivery options are beneficial to your health. Lots of the foods served at restaurants are packed with fat, sugar, sodium, and calories. However, you can still get healthy food options delivered to your door if you know what you're looking for.

Stick to the Low-Calorie Menu

Many restaurants offer some sort of low-calorie, low-carb, or gluten-free menu separate from their regular offerings. When ordering delivery, make sure you're looking at these menu options instead of all the selections. You'll have a better chance of finding something healthier to eat. 

Look Up the Ingredients

A delivery menu might not have all the details listed you need. You can look up the ingredients on your smartphone using Google pretty easily. Just look at what the menu item is or what the description says and look things up for yourself to see how many calories it may include or how much sodium is present in each ingredient.

Make Requests

Many delivery services allow you to make specific requests. You might see a text box when you're choosing the quantity of your item order. Write in this space that you want to skip the sauce, not have cheese added, or need toppings on the side. This helps you create a better meal for yourself.

Get a Kid's Meal

Adult portions are often much larger than needed. Skip the adult menu and look at the kid's menu instead. A kid's meal is often much smaller. It's also a lot cheaper. Using this when you order delivery could save you money and calories. You may feel silly ordering off this menu in-restaurant, but no one will know the difference if you're getting food delivered.

Find a Health Food Restaurant That Delivers

Not all restaurants that offer delivery are unhealthy. You may be able to find an actual health food restaurant in your area. Imagine Vegan Cafe and Smooth Living in Memphis are just a couple options. You'll have a full menu of healthy foods to choose from when picking these locations. Just call ahead to see if they offer delivery or require pick-up.

Healthy food options do exist from takeout and delivery places. You just need to be careful in what you're choosing and learn how to make the best selections for yourself. Don't avoid delivery services because you're on a diet or trying to eat healthier. There are always options available if you know how to find them.
