How to Get More Rest on a Daily Basis

By Genevieve Cunningham

We all need rest. And most of us need a lot more than we're currently getting. As American adults, we spend too much time working and pushing forward. That leaves very little time for rest and relaxation. But this lack of rest is absolutely wrecking our health! If you're ready to boost your health through more rest, take a look at these tips for getting a little more in your everyday life.

Don't Be Afraid of Naps

Naps can be your friend. They're not only for small children. When we take naps, we actually restore our energy and improve focus. The key is to find the time. Consider adding a small nap to your lunch break, or if need be, just schedule it into your day. You may be surprised at the huge difference a little nap can make in your overall energy and in the way you feel day in and day out.

Take Downtime After Work

Rest doesn't have to be sleep. It can be downtime. It still provides you a moment to relax and lower your stress. And a great time to get some downtime is right after work. If you can, get home from work and just relax. Lie down with a book or take a walk outside and then lounge in a patio chair. Downtime really gives us a chance to completely unwind from the day, which can ultimately make a big difference in the way you feel, overall energy, and health as a whole.

Prioritize Sleep

In America, we sometimes make sleep a competition. But we do it in exactly the wrong way! We brag about how little sleep we get, when we should really be fighting to get more. Make sure that you've made sleep a top priority. Go to bed on time. Don't stay up too late to do more work. Take care of yourself! If you prioritize sleep, you'll heal so much of your rest problems without any extra effort at all.

Say Not to Extra Work

It's tempting to say yes to all of the extra work. To take on things that could potentially get us ahead. But don't do this all the time. It's not good for your health, and it's certainly not good for rest. Don't bite off more than you can chew. Work hard, and then take your rest. With the right work-life-rest balance, you can keep yourself healthy for years to come.

Rest is absolutely important. It's not something we can skip out on. Make sure that you're getting enough to keep yourself health. Use these tips to manage your rest, and you'll feel better than ever in no time at all.
