Why Gardening is a Springtime Staple for Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

It’s almost spring. That means good weather, plenty of sunshine, and fun activities. Spring is a great time to try something new, boost your health, make new healthy habits, and renew yourself and your goals. But where do we start? It might be easier than you think. If you would like to boost your health while trying something new and productive, take a look at these reasons why starting a garden is a great place to begin.

It Gives You Outdoor Time

Spending time outside is almost always a great idea. It gives us a chance to breathe in fresh air, soak in some sunlight, and be with nature. If you have a garden, spending time outside is a necessity. If you really want to be healthy, spending time outdoors in the spring is an easy way to begin. Get your garden going, and you'll be spending hours and hours outside before you know it.

It’s Great Exercise

If you have never done a garden before, you may not really understand how much work it is. Gardens require quite a bit of thought, work, and even exercise. You'll be tilling the dirt, pulling weeds, planting seeds, and performing general maintenance on a daily basis. This may require you to use multiple muscle groups in your body, and you'll definitely break a sweat on more days than not. If you would like a little exercise that doesn't feel like a workout, gardening is an excellent choice.

It Allows You to Eat Fresh

Eating fresh is really good for the body. It allows you to get major nutrients that your body needs and allows you to do it in a very delicious way. If you grow your own garden, you can simply eat what you grow. And luckily, a garden requires you to grow things in season. It's also very exciting when your plants start to grow, and you can take them from the ground to the kitchen. If you would like to eat a healthier diet, starting a garden is a really fun and effective way to make it happen.

Spring is a great time to start a garden. It's fun, healthy, and can help you establish some really good habits in your life. Get some advice from a local nursery, make a plan of action, and enjoy the many good things that come from planting and growing your very own garden this spring.
