3 Good Reasons to Leave Work On Time
By Genevieve Cunningham
It seems that our modern society is obsessed with work. From the time that we're young, we get asked about our future. What do you want to be when you grow up? Once we grow up and get a job, we're expected to work, work, work so that we can save money and own a home and a car and a million other things. But while work can be a rewarding experience, it's certainly not the only thing that we should be thinking about. In fact, it might be time to consider cutting back. Does this mean to quit your job or go part-time? No! But it definitely means that you should spend less time on the clock. If you're interested in improving your health and your life, take a look at these reasons to leave work on time every day.
To Lower Stress
Too much work is sure to raise your stress levels. Even a little bit of work can do that! But since we can't avoid work altogether, it's imperative that we at least leave work on time. Don't stay late. Don't come back late at night. Just leave and go home. All of that work will still be there tomorrow. Even if you don't notice the difference immediately, stick with it. This can make a huge difference in the amount of stress that you feel long-term.
To Protect Mental Health
Your mental health can't cope with working nonstop. You might think that you're invincible, but soon all of that extra work will catch up with you. You might start to feel especially fatigued. Then you may notice a bit of irritability. This may eventually lead to depression or anxiety. To avoid these issues, just go home when the closing bell rings. Pack up, go home, and keep your mental health intact.
To Lower Risk of Disease
Stress and worry and extra time on the clock can all lead to a heightened risk of major diseases. It can lead to weight gain, which raises the risk of diabetes. It can lead to a heightened risk of heart disease. By leaving on time, you may be protecting yourself from too much stress and these potential diseases. When you weigh your health with working late, your health should win every time.
We all have to work, and that's OK. But stop giving your job your whole life! Work should be productive and challenging and a means to live. Go to work on time, leave on time, and you'll probably find your health as well as your quality of life improve like never before.
