3 Ways to Prep the Body for the Spring Season

By Genevieve Cunningham

As indicated by the massive snow storms and record colds across the northern part of the country, we're still in the thick of winter. But in the south, especially in Texas, this is the time of year when we start getting moments of warmth. Occasional warm weekends are popping up, and these little sneak peeks get us ready for the spring season just ahead. Unfortunately, even though our minds are aching for warmth, our bodies are still in winter mode. We're still carrying holiday weight and consuming too many comfort foods. If this is you, take a look at these three easy tips for getting your body ready for spring.

Increase Your Cardio

Hopefully you've been working out during the cooler months. But whether you've maintained a steady workout plan or slacked off a bit, now is the time to pick up the pace. Start by increasing the amount of cardio in your workout. Why? Because you'll need to start burning calories. Stick to your weights and calisthenics, but add just a few more minutes of moderate to intense cardio to really get the fat burning started.

Increase Your Water Consumption

Many people drink the least amount of water in the winter. The cold weather doesn't create as much thirst as the heat, and so we just don't have the desire. But hydration is a key component of weight loss and overall health. To get prepared for the warmth, start increasing your water intake right now. Start with a glass or two more per day, and keep increasing until you've hit the recommended goal. This will help get you hydrated, jump start the weight loss process, and make you feel better than ever, too.

Start Moisturizing

When it's warm outside, we dress with less clothing. Our pants turn into shorts and sweaters into tank tops. If you want to be confident in the spring, you should start taking care of your skin now. Exfoliate regularly. Moisturize multiple times per day. And go ahead and get in the habit of applying sunscreen daily. This will improve the health of your skin, but it will also make you feel more confident in your appearance when the sunshine and warm breeze finally rolls around for good.

Spring is so close. We're still a few weeks away, but we're definitely craving the warmth. Start getting ready for the season with these healthy, helpful tips. With a little preparation, you'll be ready to hit the pool, soak in the sun, and spend all day outdoors before the warm showers hit and the flowers bloom in every direction.
