Why Now is a Great Time to Break From Social Media
By Genevieve Cunningham
Social media is a really great invention. In today's world, it's rare to find someone who doesn't use it. Years ago, graduating high school or college meant losing contact with all of those people. But now? We can connect with all kinds of people with the simple click of a button. In all honesty, this brings a lot of good into our lives but it also brings some seriously negative side effects. It can be really good for us -- for our health and mental well-being -- to give it up for a while every now and then. If you've been thinking of taking a break from your favorite social media site, take a look at why now is the best time to do it.
Because Activity is Ramping Up
With the warm weather coming, activities are really kicking into gear. New sports like baseball, softball, track, and soccer are starting. Spring festivals are gearing up. Community events are popping up every weekend. The spring is a season of activity! And if you're going to give up your addiction to social media -- even for a little while -- you're going to need a way to stay busy and keep your mind off of the online world.
Because Moods Are Up
One thing that comes with the sun and more time outdoors is a boost in moods. The sun can improve the way that you feel as a whole. Social media has a way of making us feel depressed. Giving it up can feel really good, but it often takes a while for this effect to happen. If we time giving up social media with a natural boost in moods, it might be easier to stick with it and truly gain these benefits in your life.
Because It's a New Season
When the season changes, it makes personal changes feel possible. It's somehow easier to change with the world around us. When the first official day of spring hits, give up your social media for a set number of days. Doing this in conjunction with something else can make it feel easier to find success.
It's OK to use social media. It's even OK to like it! But it's also OK to get your fill and to need a break. Use the new season to take a breather from the constant connectivity. With a little break, you may be able to come back to your favorite social media platform with a new perspective and no stress.
