Want to Run? Use These Tips to Make It Easier

By Genevieve Cunningham

Running is such an incredible way to get in shape. But do you know what else it is? Really difficult! Those who run on a regular basis already know how challenging it can be, and they’ve probably already come up with some ways to make it a little easier on both their bodies and minds. But if you’re a beginner, you may not be aware of some of these tricks. If you’re looking to begin a running routine, take a look at these tips that can make the process easier, more enjoyable, and ultimately successful.

Buy Better Shoes

Shoes are basically the only form of equipment needed for running. And truly, if you want the habit to last without injury, you’ll want to invest wisely. But shoes that are both supportive and comfortable. And if you intend on keeping up the habit, replace your shoes every six months or so. While it might feel like you’re spending a bundle in the beginning, your feet and body will definitely appreciate the extra support and long-term health that comes with it.

Focus on Your Breath

It’s easy to get distracted while running. Once the bad thoughts roll in, it’s so hard to get them out again. If you find yourself with thoughts such as "I’m so tired" or "My legs hurt so much," focus instead on your breath. Feel and listen to the breath coming in through your nose and going out through your mouth. After a while, this attention to breath will consume your thoughts and allow you to drop the negative thoughts to make the run easier.

Support Yourself With Music

Music makes a difference in everything. For running, it might be the ultimate motivation. Make a playlist that gets you moving and keeps you going, and use it to fuel your runs. Without it, you may find your mind wandering too much or your motivation waning in a big way. Get some music just for you, and use it to make the running experience a good one.

Running is such a great habit to pick up and keep going throughout your life. But it can definitely be challenging. Use these tips to make the process easier and more enjoyable. With the right tools, you can set yourself up for success and get in some of the best shape of your life.
