Meet The Doctors

Dr. Shawn Hackworth, or Dr. Shawn as his patients call him, joined The Joint Chiropractic as the local chiropractor for Arlington Highlands in 2018. A 2015 graduate of Parker University, where he received his doctorate as well as a bachelor’s degree in health and wellness.

Dr. Shawn says the best thing about being in the chiropractic field “is helping people achieve higher levels of health than they have previously been able to achieve.” Also, having the knowledge to help so many of the people important to him, such as family, with their health concerns.

“I’ve also enjoyed developing many friendships with health-conscious people,” he says.

Dr. Shawn grew up in northwest Houston and worked previously in Frisco before joining the Arlington Highlands location.

He enjoys indoor rock climbing, volleyball, “and anything Disney-related.”

He was called to chiropractic care because of such care he received in his teens.

“When I was 15, I realized all the help my family and I had received through chiropractic care and how rare it was for us to become sick after starting chiropractic,” Dr. Shawn explains. “So, I felt a pull in my life to share the benefits that we received with other families and kids like me.”

He says he is excited to be working in Arlington: “The clinic is in an area of town that I am unfamiliar with, so I can ‘grow’ by backyard that is the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

When it comes to cooking stir fry, Dr. Shawn just isn’t into soy sauce. That’s why he always has Braggs Coconut Liquid Aminos on hand. “I love cooking Asian stir fry, and it’s much healthier and tastier than soy sauce.”

Given the opportunity to stir up a little dinner for any four people in history, Dr. Shawn says Walt Disney, Pastor Steven Furtick, Apple innovator Steve Jobs, and Alexander the Great would be his choices at a roundtable.

Disney should come as no surprise to anyone who knows Dr. Shawn. “All things Disney have had such a great impact in my life,” he says. “I have been at Disney World more days in the past 3 years than most people go in their entire life. I love watching the movies. I even took my ‘save the date’ photos at Disney World. His vision has had a huge impact on my life and the way I look at the world.”

Another person who has impacted Dr. Shawn’s world view is Pastor Furtick, best-selling author and head of the Elevation Church in Charlotte. “I have been listening to him for a while now and he is able to lay it out in a very relatable way that is very easy to apply his lessons to your life,” he says. “He is a big boost for me whenever I need that pick-me-up.”

Like Disney, Jobs was a game-changer. “Steve Jobs has been a catalyst for technology that has changed the way we do business, life, and keep memories,” Dr. Shawn says. “He was willing to try things that nobody could imagine because he wanted to make a lasting impact. His imagination has given us advancements beyond anything we could have imagined for years to come.”

Alexander the Great -- real name, Alexander III of Macedon -- was a Greek king who spread the word, albeit his word, in a military campaign that spread from Greece to northwest India. “Alexander the Great was able to conquer the known world,” Dr. Shawn explains. “He was able to overcome any obstacle in his life and turn it into greatness.”

The coolest thing Dr. Shawn has done involves Disney, not surprisingly. “After graduation, all my classmates asked how my best friend Christopher and I were going to handle not hanging out every day,” Dr. Shawn explains. “We told them that I was flying out in less than a month to spend two weeks with his family in Florida. I got a Disney Annual Pass and went to the Disney parks at least five of those days during Star Wars month. We also went to Sea Side, where they filmed ‘The Truman Show’ for about four days during that trip. It was my first real vacation and I got to spend it with my two best friends, Christopher and Morgan.”

Dr. Nathan Richards became a local chiropractor for The Joint Chiropractic’s Arlington Highlands clinic in 2015. He received his doctorate of chiropractic in 2011 from Parker University, along with bachelor degrees in anatomy, and health and wellness. He received a bachelor’s in zoology from Brigham Young University in 2003.

“There are two things I really love about being part of the chiropractic field,” Dr. Richards says. “One is that we are able to help people without drugs, and second is that we are able to help people without surgery.”

Dr. Richards grew up in Plano and has worked throughout Texas.

When he’s not working, Dr. Richards enjoys working with the Boy Scouts of America, playing piano, reading, cooking, watching Netflix and checking out Facebook.

His wife, Rachael, is the daughter of a chiropractor and works at an adoption agency, and also teaches kids how to sing. Together, they look after Duke, their Chihuahua and papillon mix.

Dr. Richards says one of the 20 principles from Parker University resonated with him, and confirmed he belonged in the chiropractic field. The principle is, “What you see in the universe, the universe sees in you.”

“I see potential for healing and power in my patients,” Dr. Richards says. “I think chiropractic is the means to that end.”

He says the thing that best describes what he enjoys most about working at the Arlington Highlands location is a quote from Russell M. Nelson: “Every day is a decision.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Richards says fruit is one of the things he always has on-hand, and not just any fruit. “Pomegranates,” he says, “because they have polyphenols, which are powerful.”

If he could meet with anyone in history for dinner, Dr. Richards says he would love to break bread with President George Washington, Jesus Christ, Moses, and Adam. “I want to hear their versions of what happened,” he says.

Maybe the coolest thing he has ever done was take a weeklong vacation with his wife, going from San Francisco down the California coast to Monterey.

“We had a new adventurous place to stay each night,” Dr. Richards says. “It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to, and it was quality time with my spouse. We also had a family reunion with extended family in Monterey. It was an awesome time.”
