Need an Exercise Boost? See Your Local Chiropractor

By Stephen R. Farris

So you've been putting off getting into shape. But hey, it's never too late to start an exercise routine. Plus it'll help you be more energized and possibly shed a few of those unwanted pounds.

First things first though. Make sure you are physically able to begin an exercise routine by consulting with your doctor or local chiropractor. With that out of the way and hopefully given the "all clear" status, it's time to get started.

One of the biggest mistakes people can make is to dive head first into a workout. While it may seem ideal at the moment, you can easily burn out quickly and stop working out altogether. Not the goal in mind. The first step should be to start off slow, get used to the movements and increase reps and speed as you progress.

Eventually, you'll work your way up to a longer, and harder, workout if that is one of your goals. There are a few things you might consider doing at the beginning in order that you may reach your first set of goals.

Warm Up First

Warming up before you begin any exercise routine is very important. If you jump right into your workout, such as walking or running, or cycling, it's possible to sustain an injury like a pulled muscle, quadricep or hamstring tear. Not only will it cause pain, but may set you back a while and it will take longer to accomplish your fitness goals. So do a few minutes of stretching before you begin your routine. Your local chiropractor can give you a few tips on certain stretches you can do to avoid injury.

Follow a Schedule

You might be impressed after watching someone working out to the extreme 5-7 days a week, thinking you can also do that. Well, eventually you can. But in order to get to that level you'll have to follow some type of schedule. For instance, you might do upper body exercises one day, followed by core exercises the second day, then on to the lower body for the third day. Take a break on day four then throw in cardio on Day 5. Keep it simple in the beginning until you feel ready to step up to the next level.

Nutrition

There are many diets out there, so you may want to do your research to see what is best for the goals you're looking to achieve. An idea you might consider is consulting with your local chiropractor to hear tips and suggestions they have to help you get started.

Not only can your local chiropractor provide nutritional guidance, but they can help when you have pain in your joints, neck and back, so you can continue a healthy, vibrant lifestyle.
