4 Ways to Make Your Morning Brighter
By Genevieve Cunningham
The mornings are one of the hardest parts of the day. Unless you're a natural early bird, you probably have a hard time getting going. You're tired, run down, and lack motivation. But mornings don't have to be this way. In fact, if you find ways to improve your morning, you'll be finding ways to improve your whole day. If you need help making your mornings brighter, take a look at these ways to get you moving in the right direction.
Skip the Snooze
When we hit the snooze button in the morning, we're only making it harder on ourselves. We think we're going to get more sleep and feel more refreshed when we wake up. But what we're actually doing is spending more time in that half asleep-half awake state. When we finally decide to get up, we just feel more drained. When the alarm goes off, suck it up and get out of bed; you'll be far better off.
Skip the Electronics
Electronics are so draining, and we don't even know it. If you need to feel better in the morning and save some energy, don't browse your phone or turn on the TV. Just soak in the natural light of the morning and listen to the sounds around you. This might feel awkward at first, but it won't take long until skipping electronics will feel far better.
Soak in Some Silence
It's OK to soak in a little silence. Sometimes we feel like we have to fill up any silence with some kind of noise -- talking, TV, radio -- but we absolutely don't have to. Learn to soak in the silence around you. It can keep the nerves calm and help maintain good mental health. Give it a try, and you may notice a serious improvement in your mornings and the entire day too.
Enjoy a Beverage
A hot drink in the morning feels so good. There's something about the routine and the comfort of a familiar beverage that helps you feel good. If it's coffee, enjoy a cup. If it's a Diet Coke, drink it guilt-free. Once your day really begins, you can watch your caffeine intake and worry over calories. First thing in the morning, get your favorite beverage and enjoy.
The mornings don't have to be the worst part of your day. We have to get up anyway; we may as well enjoy it. Use these tips to make your mornings a little brighter, and enjoy the boost in physical and mental health that comes with it.
