Are You Envious of Those Who Sleep Well?

By Tom Herrin

When people use the term “try sleeping on it,” do you think in your mind that you only wish that was possible?  A lot of people have sleep difficulties.  If you find yourself admiring those who are able to sleep through anything, you can take comfort in the fact that some of those may seem to do so because they never sleep well at night and become exhausted.  This may be the case with more people than it seems.  Sleep difficulties are increasingly common, and there are more and more situations that may add to that problem.

Everyday Things Can Keep People Up

Many people do things that prevent them from sleeping well without even realizing it.  One of the most prevalent thing is caffeine.  Countless numbers of people start their day with it then continue to take in sizable amounts throughout the remainder of the day in energy drinks or some foods.  When they decide to try to sleep, they may be so pumped up on it that sleeping is almost impossible.  Many of them take in more to offset the sleepiness.  It just piles up in their systems.

There Are Some More Subtle Things

For some people, eating can be part of the problem.  Eating too late or too much can disturb sleep.  Some foods are more difficult on the body and keep people awake while other foods can help people to relax.  Lights and sound can present problems as well.  I like using soft music or earth sounds to help me relax and drown out other distracting noises.  For many people, a more set schedule can help.  There are so many people who work shifts now that they are frequently needing to adjust to sleeping at different times of day.  While naps may be useful at times, they can be killers when it comes to going to bed for the night.

Get A Feel For Your Needs

Every individual situation is somewhat unique.  If you want to try to improve your sleep, try changing one thing at a time.  Don’t forget to look at your bedding, room arrangement, and room temperature.  Sometimes the very small things can have a big impact.  More than likely, you will stumble onto something that actually helps.  Good sleep can improve your health in many ways. When that happens, you won’t have to be envious at all.
