Make a Big Impact on Your Health with Low Impact

By Tom Herrin

When deciding about how to go about improving health, people have plenty of options to consider.  There are lots of canned programs. There are also many old-fashioned ways to ramp up enthusiasm and start in with heavy duty workouts.  Everyone has to consider just what is best for them in each individual case. Looking at needs and goals is a good way to begin to evaluate exactly how to go about planning and making decisions.  Starting with the least amount of stress can never be a bad option. One of the surest ways to get into low impact exercise is to start out in the water.

It Can Support the Body

The good thing about water is that it can provide buoyancy.  This means that the water helps the body to sort of float even when people are just standing in it.  This also means that body parts cannot move fast, thus impact is much lower. When people perform the same activities out of the water, their joints can take a pretty good beating as they move quickly and nothing cushions the blow of the actions.

It Can Build Strength

Moving in the water is not without physical effort.  The resistance provided by the water is said to be as much as 42 times that of air.  That is a lot. It requires a considerable amount of effort to move through this, causing the muscles to work hard.  The water itself can help to keep the body cooler while doing this so there is less chance of overheating. This solves a common problem many people have to deal with, especially when they are out of shape.

It Can Be Fun

Most people begin to have thoughts of spending time in the water once the weather begins to show signs of spring.  It is almost always appealing. Exercising in the water may be no more than simply walking in the water for a period of time.  With the natural resistance, there will be enough work for you to feel as if you have had a fair workout. Your body usually feels pretty tired when you have spent much time in the water.  Why not capitalize on that enjoyment? Get out there and move around in the water, but remember to use caution in the sun. It may be that easier workout you have been looking for.
