Make a Decision to Drink More Water

By Tom Herrin

When it comes to finding ways to do something to improve their health, many people suffer from an inability to make good decisions and stay with them.  That initial thought often fades away after a while only to lose its significance.  An easy way to try to make some good changes in health is to drink more water.  It is so simple that it may sound too good to be true.  How could something that is so basic do so much good?  Water is critical to good health and is usually easy and inexpensive to acquire.  It can do some great things for health.

It Is Critical to Physical Performance

At one time, some people did not actually realize how important the role of water is to physical activity.  Even though they knew it was essential, some seemed to think that they could make people tougher by going for longer periods without it.  When legendary football coach Bear Bryant was at Texas A&M University, he famously held a training camp without sufficient water.  Many players dropped out.  He later stated how he realized how dangerous this was.  Coaches and trainers today pay close attention to regular water breaks and water loss.  They are well aware how critical it is for them to have a good water supply in order to perform their best.

It May Help With Digestion

Many people have problems with digestion of their food.  This may be in the form of moving it effectively through the body.  When people fail to have adequate amounts of water, they may feel bloated or uncomfortable.  Drinking more water may help to add bulk to the food so that it may pass through the system more easily.  For those who may experience this kind of problem, a simple effort to increase their water intake may make a difference.

It May Help to Manage Weight

Managing our weight is a constant effort for many of us.  It seems like every time we turn around, we are trying a new diet.  Drinking more water can be a great way to jump start any weight loss effort.  Many times, when we are hungry, we are actually in need of more water.  Even if this is not the case, water can be filling and help us to eat less when we drink more water before we eat a meal.  I have tried this with pretty good success.  It is easy and has no real cost.
