Healthy Ways to Boost Energy

By Sara Butler

Everyone has days where they don't feel as if they can get themselves going, or they find themselves nodding off after lunch. You can plan to go to bed early and get more sleep all you want, but that won't help you in the moment when you need more energy.

Many people reach for energy drinks, sugary snacks, or coffee drinks to get them through this energy slump, but those may actually make the situation worse and cause a bigger energy crash later. If you want to give yourself a little pick-me-up during the day, then there are some solid ways to make that happen that also happen to be good for your health. Read on to get some ideas for healthy ways to boost your energy in a pinch.

Get Up, Stand Up

If it's available to you in your time of sluggish need, then get up and head outside for a quick infusion of energy. Studies have found that going outside can help to increase energy and bolster feelings of wellness. In fact, people who are active outside tend to have lower incidences of fatigue than those who don't.

You don't have to go for a run or even spend all that much time outside. What you do need to do is get outside, breathe in some fresh air, and feel the breeze on your face to help you feel a little more invigorated.

Sun Yourself

Speaking of being outside, getting some sun on your skin is a great way to perk yourself up. Sunlight cues your body to wake up and stay that way. Combine that with the fresh air outside, and you have a winning recipe for wakefulness that can help get you through a slump. If you can't go outside, heading to a window for a few minutes of natural light can help too.

Drink Water

If you're feeling tired, then you may simply be dehydrated. Dehydration can cause you to lose focus and feel fatigued, among other things. So, grab a glass of water instead of a cup of coffee or a soda and keep sipping throughout the day to help keep your energy levels up. You'll feel better hydrated and probably find you feel less tired as well!

Boost your energy naturally and you'll feel better!
