When Things Don't Work Out, Take the High Road
By Sandy Schroeder
We all know we can’t score every time. Sometimes it is easy to feel negative. But positive responses will help you play on through.
Remember, it is not what happens, but how you react that counts.
Here are some reminders from Lifehack.
Nothing Lasts Forever
You may feel completely shut down, but tomorrow may turn out to be totally different. Stay calm. Work with what you have. People I know who usually succeed remain calm, and look ahead when they run into problems.
Ignore Negative People
There are always people around who will help you reinforce negative thoughts. Skip them. Look for people who know how to laugh to stay positive. They will usually have good advice, and an encouraging word.
Keep Moving Even If It Is Hard
You may feel like you are spinning your wheels with some projects. But you may be learning a lot as you find ways to cope. Later you may find out what you learned when you encounter a new challenge.
Skip Fear As You Opt for the Positive
Many people waste much of their energy worrying over things that never happen. Keeping a positive focus may open new doors. Keep your eyes open. Watch for new opportunities.
Persistence Usually Wins
Nobody wins all of the time. When the answer is no, accept it and keep going. Once you have weathered a few storms, you will know you can do it.
Keep Looking for the Good Stuff
If you expect to find bad things you probably will. But if you stay positive, you may be surprised to find a whole lot of good things. Enthusiasm and smiles can be contagious.
Don’t Dwell on the Past
If you have had more than your share of bad experiences, you may feel trapped by your past. Figure out what to avoid and look around. Most people have had a few bad experiences. It’s what you do next that counts.
Know Your Wisdom Will Grow
Think of the things you learned when you first started working. Think of the things you know now. Life teaches us as we go along. Don’t expect to know everything, but recognize lessons as they occur. Over time those lessons blend together to make you stronger and more effective.
Keep Your Options Open
Sometimes when there are reversals, people have to quickly find answers. As you move through situations, look for Plans B, C, and D. At some point they may prove to be more attractive, or simply necessary.
