Chronic Pain and Your Chiropractor
By Randi Morse
Chronic pain can be debilitating and can affect your life in a huge number of ways. When you deal with pain that simply doesn't go away, you may find yourself seeking answers and remedies. Dealing with chronic pain can greatly decrease your quality of life and can cause problems like:
- Insomnia
- Fatigue
- Mental suffering
- Decreased mobility
- Constant pain
- Looking for answers
It doesn't matter if you have been dealing with chronic pain for a few weeks, a few months, or a few years: anyone who deals with pain that simply doesn't go away deserves to have their pain evaluated and a plan put into place to fix the problem that is causing the pain. Too often, people dealing with chronic pain are simply looking for a way to alleviate their pain. While this is important, if you don't find the reason behind the pain you're going to likely be dealing with the pain for a long time. Simply masking the pain with medications or heat or cold packs doesn't solve the problem.
Chiropractic Care
The job of a chiropractor is to make sure that the body is balanced. When the body is balanced correctly it becomes known as a "self-healing organism." This means that the body is able to do exactly what it is designed to do. When there is no interference, the body is able to heal itself very well, ensuring that chronic pain simply doesn't happen. Pain happens when there is something wrong in the body. Pain is your body's way of telling you that something isn't right and that it needs to be repaired. The more you ignore the problem, or mask it using medications, the more ignored the body feels. It then sends more pain signals to your brain in an effort to try to make you listen. "Hey," it says, "I'm in pain and you're not fixing it, so here's more pain."
