Breathing Well May Take Practice
By Tom Herrin
Everything we do in life is not always easy. Some of the skills we use require quite a bit of practice and technique. We seldom expect those things that come to us naturally to have any higher level of difficulty in order to do them well. As we have gained greater understanding of how our bodies work, we have learned that many of the simplest things we do may be enhanced by greater practice as well. We all know that breathing is the one thing that we do from the start. Even this may be improved with good practice.
Why Practice Breathing?
Behaviors we are born with often seem so natural that we may laugh at someone trying to make changes. In reality, many of us don't take full advantage of breathing as we should. For years, many of those who use their voices professionally have used breathing exercises. Many athletes have done so as well. Practicing breathing may include working on the lips, diaphragm, or air movement. As we improve our breathing technique, we may be able to have better lung capacity. This means the ability to take in more oxygen with each breath. This is critical in many things we do in everyday life.
Better Breathing May Support Many Things
It is believed that better breathing may help us to have better digestion. It also may help to rid our bodies of toxins as we are able to have a better oxygen supply. Even things such as digestion may be helped as we breathe more efficiently. Good breathing is seemingly a good way to help reduce inflammation. Of course, we all know that better breathing means a better oxygen supply, which is always something that is desired for a better cardiovascular system.
Breathing and Relaxation
Most of us have had some kind of experience with slowing our breathing to be more in control and counter some kinds of anxiety. When we get keyed up, slowing our breathing can be a good way to help us to become more collected. Many people use it when they do any kind of meditation. It can help to sort of cleanse the mind. It can be a great way to relax. It may be a good help as we wind down to go to bed. Whichever is the case, forming better breathing practices can go a long way toward improving overall health.
