Dr. Mike Crone became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2015 and has been serving Houston residents in the Heights clinic location since 2018.
“The thing I like about being in the chiropractic field is that I can use my knowledge and my hands to provide relief to those who need it, as well as promote health and wellness to keep people working and exercising,” he says. “I love being in a position to meet and help so many people work towards being healthier each day.”
Dr. Crone is not one for formalities, so if you feel more comfortable calling him Dr. Mike or Mike, you have his blessing. He grew up in South Louisiana, where he met a chiropractor who mentored him, Dr. Glenn Manceaux, while playing high school football. “While studying pre-med in undergrad,” he says, “I realized that I did not want to go to medical school and wanted to pursue a career promoting health and wellness.”
He and wife Natalie -- who sings in two bands and “is an amazing home chef” -- have been together since they were 15. They have two schnauzers, Lizzie and Oliver, who occasionally benefit from Dr. Crone’s love of grilling. He enjoys the outdoors by biking, hiking, and being on the water. He also enjoys working out, playing in a soccer league, and watching his wife’s bands perform.
Dr. Crone got his doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College after attending Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La., , where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology.
“I had never been to a chiropractor before deciding to go to school for it,” Dr. Crone says. “I was studying pre-med in undergrad and I knew I wanted to help people, but I couldn’t decide what route to choose in medical school. I knew I didn’t just want to write prescriptions all day. Once I finished school and started helping others, I realized that I made the right choice because I can actually help people feel better and become healthier while getting to know them.”
One such instance was particularly memorable: “I was able to help a 96-year-old veteran get out of his wheelchair and walk with a cane over the course of 12-14 visits. In general, I love helping patients find different approaches to solving their problems.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Crone says the one thing he always keeps stocked in his refrigerator is hot sauce: “I love everything spicy. We love to cook at home and I love experimenting with flavor. I have at least 10-plus hot sauces at any given time.”
It’s no surprise, then, that a book that Dr. Crone read that had a big impact on him was Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan. “It’s a short, simple read that really changed how I look at my food and how my wife and I eat,” he says. “Being healthy is a lifestyle, not a diet.”
