Dr. Lauren Nitschmann joined the The Joint Chiropractic family of local healthcare providers in 2017 and began working in Houston at the Heights location in 2019. A graduate of the University of Houston, where she received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, she earned her doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College.
“The most gratifying thing about being in the field of chiropractic is being able to return people to activities that they were unable to perform due to pain, and showing them how to prevent the same issue from occurring in the future,” Dr. Nitschmann says. “The other thing that’s so great is the wonderful patients I’ve met. These people actually care about their health and are interested in preventative medicine and living a healthy lifestyle.”
Dr. Nitschmann and her husband Tyler also enjoy living the healthy lifestyle. In their spare time away from their tabby cat named Luna, they enjoy exercising, biking, running, and spending time with friends and family.
“Health is like money,” Dr. Nitschmann says. “We never have a true idea of its value until we lose it. Preventative healthcare is the best way to stop pain before it starts. Chiropractic care is a great way to decrease and prevent pain and ensure the body is moving optimally.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
In spite of all her healthy living, Dr. Nitschmann says the one thing she must have in her refrigerator is ice cream. “It’s my weakness,” she says. “I don’t eat it every day, but my freezer feels empty if I don’t have any. Plus, it’s my reward for hard training days.”
Those hard training days is something she would love to talk about with 2018 Ironman World Champion Danela Ryf, who would be on the short list of guests for Dr. Nitschmann’s fantasy dinner party. She would also include Jesus Christ, Albert Einstein, and Mother Teresa. “I feel like that group covers a lot of different time periods and all have been very influential to the world or to me personally,” she says. “I’m always trying to better myself as an individual and a doctor.”
Dr. Nitschmann says the coolest thing she has ever done was complete an Ironman competition, which includes running, cycling and swimming. “It is a true test of mental and physical endurance and not people can say they have finished one,” she says.
Dr. Jack Pham joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2018 and is the clinic director for the Galleria at Rice and Westpark clinic. A graduate of University of Houston, he earned a bachelor of science degree with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. He received his doctorate of chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College.
“The thing I love best about being in the chiropractic field is the ability to help others,” Dr. Pham says. “The other thing that is so gratifying is the ability to provide care to my patients without the use of medication and all the risk that entails.”
He and wife Jennifer have three daughters, and in his spare time, Dr. Pham enjoys running and snowboarding.
He has always worked in the Houston area, and his first-hand experience led him down the chiropractic path.
“I knew chiropractic was my calling after being treated for an old injury that I had received care for by different specialists,” Dr. Pham explains. “It was chiropractic care that actually healed me. That experience opened up my eyes to the chiropractic philosophies and the abilities to do things that other disciplines couldn't.”
Now he is able to share those same experiences at Galleria at Rice and Westpark. “The thing I like most about working here,” he says, “is I love the idea of being able to provide care at an affordable cost.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
The one thing Dr. Pham say he always keeps in his refrigerator is water “for the obvious reasons,” no doubt referring to its necessity to sustain life and nourish a healthy body.
Given the opportunity to create a dream dinner party with any characters from history, Dr. Pham says he would very much like to sit down with Albert Einstein, Vincent Van Gogh, Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain.
A health enthusiast, Dr. Pham says the coolest thing he has ever done was jog the South to North rim of the Grand Canyon in just over 6 hours: “It was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had because it was one of the most physical challenges I’ve experienced, but at the same times was able to experience so much beauty while doing it."
Dr. Keith Turley joined The Joint Chiropractic family of local healthcare providers in 2012. A graduate of Texas A&M who earned a master of science in agricultural economics, he received his doctorate of chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
“The thing I appreciate most about being in the chiropractic field is helping people be healthy through chiropractic care,” he says. “I love helping them learn about the body.”
Dr. Turley worked previously in San Antonio and Boerne before settling in Houston, where he works at different locations.
He and wife Janis have two sons, four daughters, and a dachshund/pitbull mix. In his spare time, Dr. Turley enjoys time with his family and church activities.
He knew chiropractic was his calling when he learned a very basic premise of health. “Anything can cause anything,” he says, and as a chiropractor, he was uniquely qualified to address health issues at the root cause rather than putting band-aids on symptoms.
That allows him a real hands-on approach to health. “I really enjoy working here,” he says. “We see lots of people.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Turley says the one thing he always has stocked in his refrigerator is milk because “it makes many things taste better.”
The coolest thing Dr. Turley has done, he says, was a two-year mission trip he took to Bolivia. “We were able to preach the word of God, meet many wonderful people, and see things I have never seen before,” he says. “I was also able to learn two new languages.”
