Easy Tips to Avoid a Sedentary Lifestyle
By Stepy Kamei
We all love to kick up our feet and relax from time to time. There's certainly nothing wrong with taking some time to rest and recharge, especially after a long day at work, or during a peaceful weekend break. However, it can be tempting to fall into the trap of staying inactive and resting for long periods of time whenever you don't absolutely need to get up and work. As counter-intuitive as it may sound, resting for too long can actually be damaging to your health in a few different ways. Most notably, a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to issues such as back pain and joint stiffness. Fortunately, it's easy to avoid a sedentary lifestyle just by making some simple yet effective changes to your daily health and wellness routine. Keep on reading to learn more about how you can stay active throughout the day, as well as how seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis can vastly improve your overall health.
Move Around!
Obviously, the best way to avoid staying too sedentary is to move around frequently. However, if you're one of millions of Americans who are stuck in an office for work, or are otherwise required to stay seated for long periods of time for work, this may be more of a challenge than expected. Still, there are ways to combat the stillness that comes with your work life. At the very least, you can perform some simple stretches at your desk, such as lifting your hands above your head and bending to the side. If you're able to actually stand up and perform full-body stretches at least once every hour or two, that's even better. Consider going for a walk during your lunch break as well.
At home, you can perform some easy leg lifts and ankle rolls while you're on the couch relaxing after work. You may also want to start going for 15-minute walks in the morning before work as a meditative exercise, or after dinner to help your body digest properly.
All of these simple exercises will help circulate your blood and prevent your joints from getting stiff and aching over time.
Consult With a Chiropractor
If you're looking for further ways to keep your health and wellness balanced, consider seeing a chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic clinics. A chiropractor can help support your back and joint health, so you're less likely to suffer from stiff muscles and aching joints over time. Many patients report feeling more energized and inspired to stay active after even just one session of chiropractic.
