Good Skin May Be up to You
By Tom Herrin
While some people seem obsessed with skin care, others appear to care less. At one time, many of us may have placed women in the first category and men in the second. The truth is that taking care of the skin is something all of us should be concerned about. There is likely an increased number of things in the environment that can cause problems simply due to a greater level of pollution as we have a larger population. Our skin has a few jobs, such as retaining moisture and protecting us from infection. If we want to have better overall health, skin care needs to be included in our plans.
Apply Skin Care Products First
After you have taken a bath or shower, it is best to apply skin care products immediately. This may help to retain more of the moisture that may be taken in during that bath or shower. As with so many other things, maintaining what is there is much easier than trying to add it back after the fact. Moisture is an essential part of good skin.
Get Good Sleep
A lot of us, I am included, have often placed too little importance on getting the right amount of sleep. There are times when I felt I could skip a little sleep and get more done. The bottom line is that we give up more than sleep when we do that. Sleep is the time in which our body makes repairs. Our skin is no exception as it needs constant upkeep in order to maintain a healthy appearance. A good test of this is to look into the mirror at ourselves after a short night. The seven to eight hours recommended for most adults holds true here.
Manage Stress
One of the things that may affect almost anything related to health for most of us is stress. It can rob us of sleep and interfere with our normal daily functions. It is essential that we find ways to deal with stress. For some, this is exercise, for others it may be some kind of meditation. Stress can be as hard on our skin as any other body part. Many individuals suffer skin issues such as psoriasis and eczema as a result of stress. There may be other reactions as well. Managing our health in order to have better skin is possible.
