Have a Plan for Good Health

By Paul Rothbart

Staying healthy and preventing illness and injury are worthy goals in life. Although it's not possible to foresee every possible risk to health and avoid it, there are certainly ways to greatly reduce your risk of illness and injury. The key is having a plan. Your plan should include elements of a healthy lifestyle. Here are three things that can be helpful parts of your plan.

Self-Care

Caring for your health, both physically and mentally, is a great first part of the plan. It starts with eating a well-balanced diet. Keep foods heavy in fats and sugar to a minimum. Lean sources of protein along with plenty of fruits and vegetables are recommended to get the nutrition you need for good health. Know your body and its needs. For example, if you have high blood pressure, you want to limit sodium and also avoid foods you are allergic to.

Exercise plays a vital role in the plan. Get at least 30 minutes 4-5 times a week. It can be a walk around your neighborhood. Do something you enjoy and it will be easier to maintain the routine. Along with exercise goes quality sleep. Health professionals recommended 8-9 hours a night. Keep your bedroom sleep-friendly. You want it dark, cool, quiet, and free from electronics.

Doctors

No matter how well you care for yourself, you do need some help from the medical community. At the very least, you should have a primary care physician and regular physicals. People over the age of 40 should have them yearly. Dental checkups twice a year are also important. It's not just about your teeth. Bacteria from a decaying tooth can travel through the bloodstream and cause infections in other parts of the body. You may need the help of specialists if you have certain conditions. For a personal example, I had a cancerous blemish removed from my face a few years ago and so I see a dermatologist yearly.

See a Chiropractor

Another thing you may want to consider adding to your plan is seeing a chiropractor. They can do more than just relieve back pain. By adjusting subluxations and other problems in the spine and joints, chiropractors can increase your mobility, relieve headaches and muscle spasms, and may even help you sleep better. There are enough happy chiropractic patients that you should give it a try.

A plan for staying in good health is a great idea for a happy life. Take good care of yourself and see medical professionals. Think about stopping by The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. Find out what a chiropractor can do for you and your plan for good health.
