Maintaining Good Health at Home
By Donna Stark
If you didn't realize this yet, you probably will real soon. Being stuck at home and trying to stay healthy is hard. In fact, it may require more work than what you are probably used to. You can't get to the gym, you can't enjoy the outdoor farmers markets, and you can't relax with your friends or family. Things that you so easily took for granted before have now become the biggest obstacles to your good health. So what can you do? Well, here are a few suggestions on how you can stay as healthy as possible while your life is being completely disrupted.
Exercise
It is vital to your overall health and wellness that you don't fall into a sedentary lifestyle while at home. You have to stay active and fortunately, you can easily duplicate the workouts that you were accustomed to. Replace the treadmill with a jog around your neighborhood, the spin cycle with a bike ride, and the Zumba class with an online video. Just 30 minutes a day is all you need to keep your body running smoothly. Just make sure you take the time to stretch before and after your workouts!
Diet
The fresh produce, the vibrant colors, the amazing smells ... everyone loves a good farmers market, right? But what should you do if you can't get to one? It's important to consume plenty of fruits and vegetables with your meals so don't let this slide off your priority list. You may have to shop at a different store or dig deep into your freezer for some bags of vegetables but that's perfectly OK. You are still giving your body the nutrients and vitamins it needs and that is all that matters.
Connections
Even if you can't see your loved ones in person, it is important to stay connected. Nurturing your relationships during the time you are apart will certainly take a fair amount of creativity to accomplish, but it is possible! From video phone calls to care packages to good old-fashioned handwritten letters, the connections you maintain now will be pivotal in your quest to stay mentally and emotionally healthy!
Staying Healthy at Home
Maintaining your health while getting used to a change in your lifestyle doesn't have to be difficult! If you plan and prepare for what lies ahead, you will be sure to find success with all of your health and fitness goals. So go easy on yourself and enjoy the challenge! You got this!
