Sticking to Your Resolutions During the Super Bowl
By Brandi Swieter
The Super Bowl only comes around once a year, so many football fans have no qualms about forgoing their diet plans and forgetting about the New Year’s resolutions they made just recently. While it’s fine to induldge once in a while, the holidays just finished and many people overindulged during this time. With the year barely started, the Super Bowl shouldn’t be an excuse to drop goals already. People can stick to their resolutions during the Super Bowl by making a few substitutions to their day.
Eat Before Attending a Party
Super Bowl parties are so well-liked because of all the delicious food hosts tend to make. By eating before attending a party, those who made a resolution to start dieting or eat healthier can stick to that plan. They can eat their healthy foods at home and simply enjoy the game with friends without feeling hungry when they get there. If they do want to try a few of the offerings, they can do so safely without bingeing due to being overly hungry.
Bring a Water Bottle
Alcohol is often served at Super Bowl parties. Those who vowed to give up drinking should bring a water bottle along to any parties they attend. It ensures they can stay hydrated and have something to drink without being too tempted to drink what’s being offered. A health resolution is a reason for bringing water as well. You never know what types of high-calorie drinks will be served, so having your own beverage available will make it easier to stick to your goals.
Stretch or Step Outside During Commercials and at Halftime
New, often funnier commercials debut during the Super Bowl that many people don’t want to miss. If fitness is a resolution, it can be hard to get time in on Super Bowl Sunday. At least meet your goals by getting some stretching in while you watch. If you don’t mind missing a few commercials, take the opportunity to step outside and get some fresh air. You can also use halftime to do this.
New Year’s resolutions don’t have to go out the window already just because Super Sunday arrived. Attend whatever parties you please, but be sure to follow a few tips so the resolutions you just made in January can still be maintained into February for a good start to the new year. There are ways for people to make their goals stick as long as they’re willing to try.
