Flu Season is In Full Swing: How to Keep It Away

By Virginia Laird

While there are many who believe that fu season is winding down, it is proving to still be having a hold on many cities across the nation. Before you relax and let your guard down, health and wellness experts suggest there are many things you can do to help prevent the flu from coming into your home, including:

Get Plenty of Sleep

During flu season, health and wellness experts suggest that getting plenty of sleep can play a huge factor in preventing the flu from taking over the body. Research indicates that a well rested body can be better equipped to fight off illness than one that is lacking from sleep. It is advised that the average adult get at least six hours of sleep each night. However, children require much more than this. As you sleep, the body has the opportunity to fight off illness, restore energy, and prepare for whatever battles my lie ahead. Make sure that you and your family get plenty of sleep, especially during flu season. This can happen by giving everyone in your home, including yourself a bedtime. Although these are not popular, they are helpful in ensuring you get enough rest.

Keep Your Hands Clean

Health and wellness experts suggest that keeping your hands clean is a great way to prevent the flu from taking over your home. Keeping your hands clean requires much more than simply washing after you visit the restroom. Experts suggest that you should wash your hands a minimum of seven times each day. This includes after coming into contact with others, visiting public locations, and much more. If you are in a place where washing with warm water and soap is not handy, experts admit that hand sanitizer is a wonderful alternative. It may be wise to consider carrying hand sanitizer with you at all times so that you can keep your hands clean and your family free from the flu.

Make Time to Exercise

A healthy body is better able to fight off illness and infections. Health and wellness experts suggest that a great way to stay healthy is to make time to exercise regularly. It is advised that as little as 30 minutes of exercise three to four times each week can be enough to keep you healthy. Although many believe this means you must hit the gym, this is quite the contrary. Fitness experts suggest that a brisk walk through your neighborhood can be plenty of exercise to help your body stay healthy.

Finish the battle against the flu strong this season; add these tips to your fight to stay healthy.
