Sweat Is Not All You Wear In A Workout

By Tom Herrin

When people think about working out, the first thing that comes to mind may be sweat.  There is a lot of it in a good workout.  It is pretty self explanatory that quite a bit of energy is burned.  People prefer that in hopes that they will achieve that perfect body or lose those extra pounds.  Maybe they are just trying to improve their cardio.  Whatever their goals, there is more to a good workout than straining and sweating, though that is the primary part of it.  Dressing for the kind of workout can be just about as important as doing things correctly.

Some Clothes Just Don’t Go With The Activity

Believe it or not, all workout clothes don’t fit every kind of workout.  People who jog need to be able to move but may be hindered by clothes with legs that fit too loosely.  Particularly when they are saturated with sweat, they can seem to flap against the legs, becoming a little annoying.  Activities involving stretching may be better suited for clothes that fit somewhat closer to the body, moving with it as people stretch or extend their arms and/or legs.

Wind Or Rain Create Special Challenges

When there is a threat of rain, it is best to consider how far the nearest shelter will be for people who work out outside.  Heavy downpours or lightning can be hazardous in a hurry and should be avoided.  Light showers happen, and people can still work out in them provided they wear clothing that can shed water.  There are some materials that can do this while still allowing free movement.  Wind can be especially difficult.  A strong wind can stand people virtually still.  They must be careful to avoid materials that will have a sail effect.  For cold wind, people will want clothes that can break the wind, stopping that miserable penetrating that can almost hurt.

Higher Tech Fabrics Are Great For Many Things

The more modern fabrics that wick away moisture work well for warm weather since they enable people to stay drier while working out.  This means better cooling.  These same fabrics can be a good inner layer for workouts in cooler weather.  Insulating layers can be added to help people to have adequate protection from the cold.  As they warm, they may remove layers to achieve their ideal workout temperature.  Since the inner layer does not remain saturated, they won’t have that chilling effect of cold air hitting wet clothes.  Give a little thought to how you think your workout may go, then adjust your dress accordingly.
