Keep Your Blood Pressure on a Leash
By Tom Herrin
For many years, lots of people seemed to accept diagnoses regarding their health that sounded bleak as just the way it is. In many cases, they are that way because people have failed to take their health seriously. In other words, even if they knew better, they still kept on doing some of the things that would bring them poor health simply because they didn't want to make the commitment to make change. Sammy Davis, Jr., once said in his older years something to the effect that if he had thought he would live this long, he would have taken better care of himself. While it was likely made in jest, there is truth to it for most people. On the bright side, many things regarding health are possible for those who have a desire. Blood pressure can be one of them.
Make Healthier Choices in Diet
When people are short for time, as they are so often, they may feel the need to grab whatever kind of food is readily available. Much of the time, this is some kind of fast food. While it is true that there are some healthy options in some of these foods, a large majority contain too many unhealthy fats and/or salt along with a few other other things. Choosing some of the smaller meals, or avoiding making them larger, could be one way to help. Another way could be to simply choose more from foods that are not fried. Plain old style sandwiches are pretty good and lower in calories. Making some of these changes may help people to see a small weight difference in only weeks.
Worry Less
Lots of people experience stress. The problem for many is that, when they decide to get rid of some of it, they worry about who will take care of it. Finding someone who can share in some of this responsibility can ease the burden. Others are usually much more capable of making decisions if they are given enough information. Once this division of responsibility happens, much stress may be relieved. This is a major contributor to high blood pressure for many people.
Be in Control
We may be able to keep our blood pressure under control if we plan well and track information. Keeping a monitor at home so that we can check it regularly can be a big help. We use one, and it helps me to know just when I need to make adjustments to my lifestyle. As a result, I am able to maintain it at a level that I feel is best for me.
