Motivation is like money – it’s difficult to have too much! When you’re trying to improve your health and wellness, you need the motivation to do it. There are so many different motivational tips and tricks out there; it can be difficult to know which one works for you. The problem is so many different motivational strategies out there are nothing but mind games. They may seem legit at first, but they’re actually setting you up for failure. Here are a few motivational mind games you need to let go of so you can find success.
Go for the Gold
Here’s the thing: You’re not an Olympic athlete. Shooting for the gold may have been just fine for Mary Lou Retton, but it’s not for you. That’s because your lofty goals are too high. Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t have some significant long-term goals in mind for health, but if your goals aren’t realistic and achievable, then you’ll lose motivation and fizzle out.
When you first start out, it’s OK to feel like you’re going for the gold, but you must set long-term goals must have smaller ones along the way that will help you feel as if you’re getting somewhere. Look at smaller, more subtle ways you can change your life as you work towards a larger goal. That will help you stay on track.

There will always be a new diet fad or exercise out there that promises you amazing results. These ideas can help to spark your motivation. Who wouldn’t want buns of steel in just two weeks? But you know the truth deep down: Those results only exist on television, not in real life.
In order to improve your health in the long term, you should stick with time-tested methods that actually work. Eating the rainbow and exercising most days of the week will help improve your health.
Motivation mind games may seem as if they’re boosting your fitness morale, but these techniques can lead you astray.
