Sticking to Your In-Home Exercise Plan
By Lexi Herrin
Exercise can improve your quality of life. It can help improve mobility, help joint and muscle function, and can help improve your overall health. Although it is important, exercise may be hard for some people to fit into their schedule, especially going to a gym to exercise. Luckily, there are several ways that you can exercise in your home that can be just as effective as going to a gym. At-home exercise routines can be hard to stick to; here are some tips for sticking to your at-home exercise routine that can help you improve your quality of life.
Set Some Goals
Setting goals is important so that you have something to accomplish. It is recommended to exercise twice a day for smaller increments instead of once a day for a long period of time, for instance something like 10 minutes twice a day. It is also recommended to do an aerobic type exercise every day and add strength training two or three times a week. It is also extremely important to warm up and cool down before and after exercising to avoid strains, sprains, and muscle cramps.
Ways to Exercise in Your Home
Some things that you can do for in-home exercise include aerobic activities such as walking up and down your stairs, dancing, riding a stationary bike, walk on a treadmill, or even walk around your house at a fairly brisk pace. To add in some strength training, you can use resistance bands or even small weights. Other exercises that you can do in your home include heel raises, squats, seated knee extensions, leg lifts, and planks against a wall. There are several other exercises that you can do in your home, just find things that work for you.
Important Things to Remember
When you are formulating your exercise plan, it may be beneficial for you to talk to your doctor about it. If you have health problems, they can help you formulate an exercise plan specifically for you. Another important thing to remember is to not skip a day. If you are traveling, maybe find time on your trip to walk where you would normally drive. Once you stop exercising on a routine it can be extremely hard to get back on your schedule. Don't skip a day of exercise, you may regret it.
