Chiropractic Suggestions for the School Day
By Brandi Goodman
The school season is hard on a lot of kids. The frequent stress, heavy backpacks, and easily spread illnesses can be a lot to handle. With some chiropractic suggestions, however, students everywhere should be able to get through the school day much easier.
Wear Your Backpack Correctly
With such a heavy backpack hanging off one shoulder, you're bound to feel an ache along one side of your body. Instead of allowing this to happen, make sure to wear your backpack correctly. With both shoulder straps in place and the bag sitting high up without tugging at the shoulders, you won't feel the daily discomfort.
Wear Athletic Shoes
You may have a lot of walking to do throughout your day. Whether you're going from one classroom to another, or have a long way to go to the cafeteria, the right shoes can help. Your feet, legs, and even back can ache because of the wrong shoes. Wear athletic footwear that offers cushion and support. Never choose high heels or sandals.
Stretch Often
You should stretch your body as often as you can throughout your day. Sitting in one hard seat for most of the day can be painful for your back, bottom, and legs. Stretch your body out before school, while you're sitting, between classes, and after your day is done to keep your joints flexible and avoid stiffness.
Get Your 8 Hours of Sleep
Sleep is important for everyone. You need to get your full 8 hours if you want to handle stress well, be able to focus on your schoolwork, and make it through your day with ease. Failing to get enough rest will lead to harmful consequences for your body and mind.
Find Stress Solutions That Work for You
Stress can lead to tension and pain in the body. You need to find stress solutions that work for you and can be done at school. Music may be your stress solution for home, but it won't suffice at school if devices and headphones aren't allowed. You may be able to use the option during your lunch break, though, or as soon as the day is through. You could also jot down positive thoughts in a notebook to help you stay on track, or doodle some pictures. Fidget spinners and other options are also possibilities to help occupy your mind.
Keep these chiropractic suggestions in mind and you'll be more likely to make it through the school year without daily aches. There will always be some discomfort to your day, but you can do your part to help keep it limited.
