5 Chiropractic Tips for a Better Back

By Brandi Goodman

Your back is quick to ache for a number of reasons. Whether you're failing to get adequate exercise and keep your back strong, or you're sitting in a slouched position for an extended duration, you're going to wind up sore and unable to move as well as you should. Keep some chiropractic tips in mind for a better back so you can avoid the debilitating pain.

Focus on Back-Strengthening Exercises

You should, of course, perform cardio regularly to get your heart rate up and burn plenty of calories. However, you really need to focus on back-strengthening exercises so you can keep your back and abs strong. This will help prevent routine backaches. Do exercises, such as the bridge, to help.

Start Sleeping With Your Spine in Mind

Your sleep position could be a culprit of your back pain. You need to start sleeping differently, with your spine in mind, to ensure you wake without aches. Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees, for example, to help keep your spine straight and pain-free.

Upgrade Your Office Chair

Whether you're working in an office chair or simply have one at home to sit in, it most likely needs an upgrade. Your chair should be an ergonomic one with lumbar support that helps keep you upright. You don't want a chair that sits too low or allows you to slouch too easily, as this will lead to lower back pain. An ergonomic, adjustable option is best.

Get a New Pair of Shoes More Often

Too many people wear the same shoes every single day -- for years at a time. This practice should be forgotten. It may save you money on footwear, but it's bound to cost you far more when your back is aching daily. Worn out shoes can lead to leg pain, and then back pain because of it. Get a new pair more often so you're maintaining the overall health of your lower body.

Get a Better Bag

If you're someone who carries a bag regularly, make sure it's the right kind. Most purses and bags that only go over one shoulder are bound to cause you discomfort. The added weight tugs on one side of your body and causes an unbalance that leaves you feeling sore. Get a backpack with two straps that allows for even weight distribution. Your back will be better for it.

These few tips can make a big difference for your back - and your overall well-being. Make the changes a little at a time until you're sleeping, exercising, and even sitting better. It will keep your back strong and safe. A visit to the chiropractor should also be in order.
